Some relevant points made in the below thread...especially from a theoretical physics viewpoint AI has impacted all things linguistic and computational.. from an experimental physics viewpoint it is a good tool in the kitty..but the hardware 4D world is a different beast...

It is illuminating to reflect on the qualitative difference in the way mathematicians and physicists reacted to the huge OpenAI dump of hundreds of results-- mathematcians went bonkers, but physicists just shrugged: Laughlin spectral gap, Area law, Haldane gap--good job buddy!

One of my favorite Ashoke Sen stories is when a PhD student wrote a letter to him(this was in the early 90s) as a last ditch effort to understand some concepts that were eluding her. Unknown to her, Sen was due to visit her institute a week or so later. When Sen arrived, the very first thing he did after checking in was to find the student and answer all her questions.

To celebrate 100 yrs of Meudon and Paris locations of the Observatory uniting, they replicated the experiment calculating the speed of light. A beam fired from the Meudon couple to the Arago couple in Paris 14. Reflected back in 56.19μs. Surreal experience in brilliant weather.
