Tomorrow, world leaders will gather in #Johannesburg for the G20 #SouthAfrica summit to address today’s most pressing global challenges.
The #T20 engagement group communiqué calls for several policy actions, including a call for the #G20 “to launch a security-sector anti-corruption initiative to ensure that the #securitysector supports rather than hinders development and #stability.” This recommendation builds on a recent T20 policy brief co-authored by DCAF’s Hans Born & Alice Alunni, together with Lindy Heinecken & Wilhelm Janse van Rensburg.
The brief recommends that the #G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group launch a new initiative on countering corruption in the security sector by:
📝 Leveraging best practices to inform G20 High-Level principles.
📜 Creating a “Model Act” for parliamentary #oversight.
🤝 Strengthening oversight collaboration.

We took part in the final @T20org Official Side Event at the @g20org Social Summit!
As geopolitical tensions rise and civic spaces shrink, the #T20 side event brought #civilsociety together to reflect, reimagine, and reinforce its role in shaping a more inclusive, accountable #G20— rooted in the aspirations of #Africa and the #GlobalSouth.
As the G20 shifts back to the Global North, the imperative is to build lasting State–Civil Society partnerships and ensure African perspectives remain embedded in global governance.

#KAPSARC President, Fahad Alajlan, joined a panel titled “The Whole of Economy, Whole of Society Energy Transitions” at the T20 South Africa Summit.
While highlighting pathways that align climate ambition with investment and innovation, the President noted that more than USD 5 trillion is needed globally to finance the transition, with particularly large funding gaps in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
We need to ensure that the global energy transitions are not only sustainable, but also fair, equitable and development oriented.

Today, South Africa's G20 Sherpa, Mr. Zane Dangor, delivered powerful remarks at the G20 Sherpa meeting, embodying the nation's spirit and vision for its Presidency!
The core message emphasized the strength found in diversity, echoing the South African motto: "United in our diversity." Mr. Dangor stressed that while some may view diversity as an obstacle, South Africa sees it as a profound source of strength over division.
He highlighted that this principle is fundamental to South Africa's approach, seeking to preserve the unity of the G20 group as a collective force. "We look forward to constructive engagement over the next four days to ensure the Leaders' Declaration reflects our collective ambition for a unified, productive global future".
