SOAP BOX THIS MORNING
The hardest part of coaching isn't losing. It's caring so much.
We carry our athletes—the ones struggling at home, doubting themselves, frustrated by playing time, or angry because we challenged them.
Athletes: Your coach isn't your enemy because they hold you accountable. Sometimes the coach who makes you the maddest is the one fighting hardest for who you're capable of becoming.
Parents: Don't fix every disappointment. Let your kids struggle, fail, and learn to get back up.
Coaches aren't perfect. We're human. We make mistakes. We lose sleep over decisions. But we care more than you know.
Because the scoreboard resets. The season ends. The uniform gets hung up.
But who these kids become lasts forever.
I don't need every athlete to remember every win.
I want them to remember:
My coach believed in me.
My coach challenged me.
My coach didn't let me quit on myself.
My coach cared about who I became—not just what I could do.
That's coaching.
That's the part nobody sees.
And that's why I coach. 🏈

Plenty of people have expressed their opinions on this, but what do actual college decision-makers think? Here are 3 quotes from current general managers in college football.
P4 GM: "Exposure has never been easier. College summer camps, summer combines/camps, increased unofficial visits, larger game day visits, easy access to putting your film online (HUDL). Most kids that aren’t being recruited by the schools they want to be isn’t a visibility issue; it’s a talent issue. High School families don’t need to be paying to get evaluated. They should start with their HS coaches and find out how to become a better football player."
P4 GM: "They’re just trying to make money on the dreams of the players who wouldn’t get recruited anyway. Are there now more spots for FBS teams to take players? No. They’ll just rank more players who paid for it, but the opportunities don’t expand. The number of scholarships given out by programs remains the same. Excited for the meltdown because On3 is a market driver for NIL and this opens the door for families to pay them to rank them higher for more NIL."
G5 GM: "To me, it's all stupid. Anybody who's paying for these rankings or evaluations is already in the wrong. The priority should just be to be a really good high school football player, and you're going to be recruited, and you're going to get ranked.
"Are these parents even going to listen when they get a rating back that says they're an FCS-level player? Probably not. They'll probably just spend more money trying to change what they are. They'll keep spending money on things until they get the answer they want to hear, but the film isn't going to change from Friday nights."

This is unreal and slimy...parents and kids dont fall for this foolishness
Theres a lot of talented writers and evaluators that work at rivals
This undermines their credibility IMO

70 years ago, a skinny freshman from Brenham named Jim Linnstaedter intercepted 35 passes in a single season.
Now approaching his 85th birthday, he and his family are still trying to prove it actually happened.

The trade is the trade.
Nobody forced you into it.
If you chose football, you chose early mornings, sore legs, long lifts, hard coaching, hot summer workouts, and the expectation that you’ll show up ready to work whether you feel like it or not.
Too many people want the rewards of the trade without accepting the cost of the trade.
The truth is simple: the price was listed before you signed.
So stop complaining about what comes with the job. Embrace it. Own it. Attack it.
The trade is the trade.

Great dialogue at the THSCA HQ today with our Ad Hoc Committee💫 We have the greatest structure in the country concerning our education-based and community-based athletic programs, and this group is working hard to make sure that we preserve those values, including our rules regarding athletic transfers and residency requirements. #THSCAStrong
This is how it should be everywhere and this is exactly what we need to protect at all costs in Texas.

I will say this….with the Houston weather (heat/rain/lightning)…it is a fundamental athletic/fine arts need for these structures in the Houston area. D/FW has 70+ facilities. There are 144+ state wide. Houston has 3!!!
Houston area needs to close the gap!!!
Some bad weather today in Houston. Next year @WFGatorFootball, @WF_Gator_Soccer, @GatorGirlSoccer , @Softball_wf and @GatorWfBaseball have a place to practice in. Only 3rd covered practice facility in all of Houston!!! #CHOMP

41 years of coaching football taught me that while scheme, and coaching are important, the biggest indicator or predictor of success is player, parental and communities Investment! When everyone puts in the quality time to outwork & out prepare your opponents, success happens.

Yesterday we had a coach on our staff experience a cardiac emergency. He is alive and recovering today because people on site knew CPR, knew where to access and how to use the AED, and didn't panic/hesitate when the emergency happened. Take CPR/AED classes seriously.

5 ⭐️ Kennedy Brown is just refreshing.
“I’m not necessarily into NIL as much because if you’re good, the money will come. I’m big on relationships. O-line development. Academics; you’re getting a free education. That’s amazing."
