I asked an MLB player what he wishes he knew earlier about hitting. “Feel-good BP is backwards. You’re wanting to feel good when it doesn’t matter and you have a false sense of 'being ready'" "Get your routine in. Then challenge yourself in the box every single day." "Nobody’s ever gotten a hit that counts in a cage." "All those barrels off a 47 mph fastball stay there. What comes with you is how you trained your eyes, your decisions, and your path at game speed.”

The people that need to understand this are either illiterate or willfully ignorant. Or both. It’s amazing how a sea of dadcoaches and cloud-yellers convinced everyone that “Launch Angle” is a type of swing. Testament to propaganda. MPH is a type of car, too, I guess.
Launch Angle * does not mean * Uppercut Swing Launch Angle is the angle of the ball launched. Its literally in the name And you can get a launch angle conducive for a long hit even if you do what Tiger Woods does here, a decidedly NOT uppercut swing youtube.com/shorts/Js_jHUwUe…

"The guy that used to hit .300, I'm sorry to tell you, is going to hit .240, .250 today. It just is what it is." @JoeyVotto breaks down why the league does not have more players like Luis Arraez and explains how baseball's evolution has led to that trend.

There is a pretty common denominator with people of this "anti-analytics" mindset, and it's that they do not know what goes into the more complex statistics. However, their solution is to use simpler statistics (RBIs, HRs, Sac Flies, runs, SBs), which are also analytics. So their argument shifts from anti-analytics to anti-big numbers. And that is called ignorance.

If you’re wondering why hitters strike out more now than they used to, here’s a starting pitcher (in a high leverage playoff game) throwing fastballs under 80 mph less than 20 years ago. Most people don’t realize how much pitching has evolved in a short time.
A-Rod blast during the 2009 ALCS in Anaheim:
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This pitch was a changeup, not a fastball. Jered Weaver's four-seam fastball averaged 88.9 mph in 2009, with his changeup typically running 77-81 mph; his fastball didn't drop toward 80 mph until 2015-2016. baseball-almanac.com/players/player… blogs.fangraphs.com/jaws-and-the-2… nbcsports.com/mlb/news/jered…

I’m old enough to remember when people criticized guys for trying to pull the ball in the air too often. Not enough fans of Ted Williams out there, apparently.
The average Pull-Air% in MLB this season is 18.4%. Since adjusting his swing, Pete Crow-Armstrong has posted a 42.5% Pull-Air%, the highest mark in MLB. He also leads baseball with 24 home runs over that span. Here is each one of them:

Love these front view close ups! Look how it's the core and lower half TURNING the barrel, not the hands pushing to get it there. Also notice that his foot is NOT down when the pitch is being released contrary to what many think.

JJ Wetherholt by hit trajectory: Ground balls: .185 Slg % Line drives: .692 Slg % Fly balls: .737 Slg % He's doing well. He just has to try and avoid that rollover swing to 1B/2B. That's his kryptonite right now.

The “boring” stuff wins ballgames: -Backing up the play -Putting the ball in play -Moving the runner -Making the routine plays -Consistent communication -Throwing strikes -Smart baserunning -Taking your walks -Getting HBP, holding your ground -Hitting a cutoff man -Hustling out everything *At some point, the “boring” tasks of ⚾️ will win extra games! And more often than not, playoff berths, seedings, playoff wins, and even championships can be determined and decided by what many would call “boring.” Turn the “boring” into the “important” and that’s how you win! #BaseballTruth
