Completely disagree with the sentiment here Doctors love informed patients. Takes far less time than uninformed, for whom you have to start from scratch to explain everything
Let's be real about why some doctors don't want patients uploading lab results to AI. It's not 'erroneous guidance'. It's that informed patients ask questions. Questions take time. And insurance doesn't cover answering questions. Blaming AI is wrong. Blame insurance.

Meet BCAN Young Investigator Awardee @alexzhuDO "Sometimes meaningful advances in cancer care come not only from discovering new treatments, but from learning how to use our existing treatments better. I am grateful for this award, which will support our research investigating whether optimizing the timing of BCG therapy can harness the body’s natural immune rhythms to improve outcomes for patients with NMIBC.”

6/ Then there's the money. Radical cystectomy + neobladder: ~44 wRVU for an all day operation with a 90-day global and ~50% complications. An office cystoscopy is ~2 wRVU in minutes. We can say we value complex surgery, but the payment system says something else.

👏 Ya I’m getting a little tired of the adage that “young people don’t want to work hard anymore” Why would anyone want to work longer hours for less pay? It has to come from other sources of fulfillment. If the field is lacking that fulfillment at scale, that should be examined. That’s much harder to do than blaming work ethic. I think it’s actually great for pts that more urologists can do complex cases outside academic institutions. I think it’s better that we aren’t forcing trainees to do research they are not passionate about just so they can get training for oncology cases.

When men become fathers, they often gain empathy. But the boost in caring doesn't happen automatically—it comes from caregiving. The more involved men are in raising children, the more their brains change. Becoming a dad is not a wonder drug. It's an active commitment.

Most patients don't realize their doctors and nurses think about them in the spaces between visits. While driving home, getting ready for bed, while falling asleep. Our work is a part of us, and we care about you. That's all.
