Penning a story on Canelo Alvarez, seriously, he is the last fighter who was developed under the 'old' system of fighting on regional networks, then moving up to cable, and a premium network and if good enough, pay-per-view. It was an organic process that weeded out those who weren't good enough. And he became relevant through activity and longetivity. He will have over 70 fights when his career is over. The next generation, most will struggle to get to 40, much less 50. This is how this became a niche sport. I really think Canelo might be the last of his kind. #boxing

These people are such annoying NERDS. Jay-Z is one of the few remaining monocultural figures who hasn’t played at halftime. He’s the perfect fit. Jay playing makes every bit as much sense as the Boss, Petty, or Prince.
The NFL partnered with Roc Nation to appease black outrage over Colin Kaepernick. Despite poor fan responses to halftime shows under Jay-Z's direction, the league extended the deal 2 years ago. The NFL can't get rid of it without getting called racist, so now we have the absurdity of Jay-Z picking himself to perform amid rap's declining popularity.

This has to be some diabolical trolling

So true king
DK Metcalf, asked if there was a country he would like to play a next international game at: “No, sir, because I really don’t like traveling outside the U.S. to play football.”

The Steelers are the perfect team for a guy my age. Every win is absolute torture and features a 30-something waking up to be great for five seconds after being useless for an hour. Unc ball!

Ben Affleck says AI is simply matrix multiplication, linear algebra and floating point calculations, and however convincingly it sounds like a person, it has nothing to do with thought, humanity or feeling “Nor do I believe, and I think it’s important to draw the distinction between what AI does, which is simply predict the next token or the next word in a sentence, then add that word on, run it back to the machine, do a lot of computation and pick the next word." "That is a very different thing than sentience or thought. And I think we need to be really clear about that because it can be convincingly, in an illusory way, sound like thought or like a person." "But let’s be real clear. This is matrix multiplication. This is linear algebra. These are floating point calculations. It has nothing to do with thought, humanity, or feeling.”

Correct. All these kids think they’re the A side when no one knows who the bell they are. They’re, at best, where Floyd was before the Gatti fight and think they’re Floyd after the De La Hoya fight.
I don’t have any substantial thoughts on the Shakur-Haney situation besides this We are living in the lamest period of boxing ever

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

I love that, even with the failings in Bobby’s adult life and the rot around his town, his father’s vision comes true in The Return.

Flyers hit Crosby. Fans cheer. Crosby gets up, starts play that ends with Penguins goal. Tale as old as time.

Mike Tomlin has been pretty good broadcasting but idk I feel like his innate city planning skills and eye for community-focused architectural design are being wasted. He could save us from the inundation of grey six-story condos with mixed use retail space on the ground level.

“Sorry we stole a game from you, but you can’t do anything.”
Sean McVay said he was told by the league that Josh Wallace should not have been called for defensive pass interference on Sunday.
