Neglected Nuggets

@TheLostRecord

Our aim is true - highlight some quality tunes that have become somewhat overlooked & forgotten. That's all folks, no biggie.

#NickDrake 1st came across Nick Drake in 1989 when this 2nd hand tape intrigued me whilst flicking thru racks at Freebird records. Never heard of him (pre-internet) but took a chance for £1.99 The previous owner had folded the Hot Press review inside the inlay. #GoodDay

Can't get enough of the recently released demo version of this grizzly tale (search out the lyrics). Great songwriting. open.spotify.com/track/1VUXJ…

ROBERT PETE WILLIAMS: I've Grown So Ugly (1961) The Captain Beefheart cover is better known (and vocally more out there of course) but this acoustic blues number is sweet too. Always nice to revisit the source. open.spotify.com/track/0PvKs…

Thinking about the passing of Steve Barrow. His books. Compilations & liner notes on Reggae were top class & lit a fire (a blood & fire even) I didn't know existed in this conformative, narrow minded, the rock & pop canon is all there is white boy. I'm forever grateful. RIP Steve

Boy, do I miss the NME. An album would have to be very highly rated to get an 8/10 in its review. Maybe only 30 or so albums a year got an 8 or higher back then. ALL 17 albums on this 2 page spread of the current Mojo are given a rating of 4 stars out of 5. #ReviewInflation

I'm bemused about all these posts about 'no skip albums on vinyl'. Surely playing a record straight through is all part of the immersive experience of playing ANY album on vinyl. Who actually gets up and lifts the needle to skip a track anyway?

I've started to upload my Velvet Underground press archives to a single space It's free. Just click below and you can navigate to each month of each year to see what press they achieved. It's a little clunky at the moment but I'll refine it. thevelvetundergroundmyth.com…

Replying to @jimcarrey
Since you'll be leaving Twitter, I'll never forget you've sang a B-E-A-UTIFUL song cover of Bob Dylan's Don't Think Twice, It's Alright! As I remember discovering this clip online when I was a kid. It just reminds me that Jim Carrey has great taste in classic songs like this.🎶

Been reading this latest issue of Uncut showcasing its top 500 LPs of the last 14 yrs. Given they were highly praised by Uncut at the time, I'm surprised these missed out: Queen of Denmark by John Grant. Nothing from Mogwai, Bjork, Grizzly Bear, Fr John Misty or Sun Kil Moon.
