I was quite surprised last weekend at how much more challenging it was to sit under an icy waterfall (which winded me within 15 seconds) compared to getting into the same water up to my neck, which I did fairly easily for 2 minutes. I'm guessing it had something to do with the water hitting my head and neck, which I'm less used to, hitting my nervous system in a different way.
It fits with my experience training for a cold water swim a couple of years ago - as soon as I switched to swimming with my head in the water, it was way harder!

How to Use Essential Oils for Sauna Aromatherapy?
As someone who has been going to the sauna for almost two decades, I can tell you a thing or two about it:
🧵
ALT In the lower right of the image is a wooden bench with a folded white bath towel on it, and in the foreground are two small brown glass bottles of essential oil with the caps next to them. On the left side of the image is a wooden sauna infusion bucket with a wooden spoon lying on top of it. In the background is the wooden sauna wall with a wooden coat rack with a sauna cap and two Birch whisks on it. @TheSpaCommunity

A little sauna trick that 99% of people don't know.
The effect is also the most impactful and once you know it and get the hang of it, you often don't want anything else. 🧵
ALT Wooden spoon with menthol crystals in it. In the background is a glass jar filled with menthol crystals with a sprig of mint on top. This is all on what appears to be a granite surface.

3 mile run then home for a soak in the cold tub, listening to the birds. Water temperature 12°C. Those frozen bottles of water need to try harder!
