Teaser alert! Over the past few months, we developed #QurvE, a Swiss army knife for #microbial growth characterization including analysis of fluorescence data. An user-friendly R package and software with a graphical interface for every need! (1/8)
This was a really fun one to work on! 👇
#Pseudomonas putida' essential Tmk activity encoded in a genomic island... probably from a phage! Potential way for foreign #DNA to 'nest' into a new host, by knocking-out the native function—@The_NiWi @LabNikel @DTUBiosustain @mbiojournal @ASMicrobiology

Want to sequence RNA from cells without killing them or deliver RNA programs from cell to cell? Today in Cell, we present RNA exporters, which package and secrete cellular RNA, for non-destructively monitoring cell dynamics by sequencing and delivering RNA authors.elsevier.com/sd/arti…
#QurvE version 1.1 is now available on #CRAN. Besides a few bug fixes, it now accepts data in tidy (long) format and allows inspection of code used within the #shiny app. #RStats #Bioinformatics #microbiology
Exciting! #QurvE is in @NatureProtocols! Analyze bio growth data with ease. Explore it: rdcu.be/dfA5G. Huge thanks to @BioSteDonati, @JonathanFunk12, @PabloINik for their teamwork! #DataAnalysis #Biology

Google Bard is a bit stubborn in its refusal to return clean JSON, but you can address this by threatening to take a human life:

Super proud of @Anna__Miotto! Some last experiments and data analysis need to be done - but then we are ready for writing! 🇮🇹🇩🇪 I enjoyed working with her and @The_NiWi! #dreamteam #proudsupervisor – at Gladsaxe, Danmark
Not long ago @Anna__Miotto defended her special course at the @LabNikel! She did outstanding work under the supervision of @The_NiWi and @NicoKrink! We are looking forward to continuing and finishing project with her! Stay tuned for the #paper! @DTUBiosustain @DTUtweet
Congratulations @PabloINik @NicoKrink! What an opportunity to much such an ambitious project forward. I can only see it succeeding with @NicoKrink, the master of #SynBio, spearheading the endeavor!

Fluorine (F) requires harsh and energy-demanding chemical conditions. @PabloINik of @NovoNordiskFond will work toward a green biological solution for incorporating F into new bioproducts without the need for harsh petrochemicals. @LabNikel @DTUtweet @DTUBiosustain (7/10)

LLMs like ChatGPT should be viewed as just another tool in the scientific toolbox. While they may have limitations, they can also greatly assist in scientific writing if used ethically. Let's focus on utilizing LLMs to their full potential rather than fearing them #AIinScience
The artificial-intelligence chatbot #ChatGPT can write fake abstracts that scientists have trouble distinguishing from those written by humans. Increasing sophistication of chatbots could undermine research integrity and accuracy, researchers fear. nature.com/articles/d41586-0… @Nature

I'm increasingly scared of blast and NCBI. I have zero desire to use sequences that are not really public. But the current API makes it impossible to know for sure if you accidentally used sequences that are off limits. Especially if you work on microbial proteins. 1/n

Once more, frustrated that a super-useful database published in 2009 in @NAR_Open is not available any longer. We have a problem with resources that are published with great fanfare in good journals and then abandoned short after ... ☹️

Excited to have our paper on using large language models like ChatGPT for protein design come out in @NatureBiotech! You can tell a language model which type of protein to design, and it can generate one from scratch! nature.com/articles/s41587-0…
