“I’m not the guy you kill, I’m the guy you buy. Are you so fucking blind you don’t even see what I am? I sold out Arthur for 80 grand and a three year contract. I’m the easiest part of your problem and you’re going to kill me?” Michael Clayton (2007)

As an Alabama diehard fan I’m upset that Indiana just completely emasculated us at the Rose Bowl but that was maybe the classiest post game interview I’ve ever seen from both Cignetti and every Indiana player who touched a microphone. I will be rooting hard for IU the rest of the CFP.

Scientific evidence for a quote that I'll never forget: "A busy calendar and a busy mind will destroy your ability to do great things in this world" - Naval
If you sit in back-to-back meetings at work, read this: Microsoft's Human Factors Lab studied 14 participants across two days of video meetings. • Day 1: 4 back-to-back 30-min meetings. • Day 2: 4 30-min meetings with 10-minute breaks in between. Participants wore EEG caps to monitor electrical activity in their brains. The results were fascinating... The two key takeaways: Takeaway 1: Back-to-Back Meetings Promote Stress Back-to-back meetings created an accumulating buildup of stress in the brain. Anticipation of transitions caused further spikes. Short breaks in between meetings allowed the brain to reset and never experience the stress buildup. Takeaway 2: Breaks Promote Performance Back-to-back meetings resulted in negative levels of frontal alpha symmetry, a brain state connected to lower levels of engagement. Short breaks in between meetings resulted in positive levels, meaning participants performed better. Conclusion: Take More Breaks The conclusion of the study seems to be that short breaks in between meetings are necessary: • Eliminate stress buildup • Improve performance • Reduce impact of attention residue I started implementing 25-minute meetings into my schedule (a built in 5-minute break) and immediately noticed a positive impact. A short walk or some movement in that window provided a clear reset. 25-minute meetings also eliminate the 5 minutes of “how about the weather” low value chit chat most meetings open with. If you set the tone to dive in and stay focused, there are few things that take more than 25 minutes. Try it! If you enjoyed this or learned something, follow me @SahilBloom for more in the future.

Parents would rather track their kids every move and read their every message than teach them how to handle themselves. We’re raising softies! The world doesn’t revolve around kids! Let em figure it out and make some mistakes.

It's weird how people say life is really tough for young people and that's why they aren't getting married. The tougher life is, the more it matters that you have a loving, supportive partner to lean on.

Buzzwords smart people won’t say: Thought leader. This one is a cousin to influencer. I’ve been asked if I’m a thought leader. I don’t know, I’ve never thought of referring to myself as a thought leader. bit.ly/3oCJJTw #Leadership #Management #LFreakpost

The 80 percent principle: Immerse yourself fully in an activity until you reach 80% proficiency/completion. Going beyond that *usually* has diminishing marginal utility/happiness. Example: learning how to play tennis. h/t Yvon Chouinard

Oftentimes when someone at work tells you "NO" really they just mean "Not yet." Keep improving your idea and don't give up. Eventually that "NO" will become a "Yes."
