Congrats to the @UARKLaw Class of 2023 and many thanks for the opportunity to encourage them to be the difference that makes a difference in the lives of those who are victims of social injustice and unconstitutional legislation. ⚖️ nwa.pressreader.com/article/…

We had a few guys yesterday let go of the rope in every way during practice. I told the guys if you play that bad you have to come stay at my house. A couple of them did have to come stay at my house last night. Those guys did practice better today, so my question is did those guys practice better because they stayed at my house or because they didn’t want to stay at my house again?!!?
This won’t be popular with Razorback football fans, but it needs to be said: There’s no doubt that John Tyson deserves the credit for bringing Coach Cal to Arkansas, but Hunter Yurachek deserves the credit for making sure Cal is happy at Arkansas and finishes his career as the Razorbacks’ head basketball coach.
Coach Cal: “Everything he said he would do, he did. I'm looking around the room, saying, What? Are we losing our minds here?”
John Calipari was asked about Hunter Yurachek during his SEC Media Days appearance. Here's his full quote:
"The best thing for this program: we're not in debt. Now, there are not many programs around the country that can say they're not in debt. We're not in debt. He's been great for me. Part of the reason I took the job is, I sat down with him and I was comfortable. Everything he said he would do, he did. I'm looking around the room, saying, 'What? Are we losing our minds here?'
"He has kept us to where we can now figure out how we're going to go forward. But I understand you got ADs being fired around the country. You know why? Because their programs are in debt: 200 million, 100 million, 150 million, and so they're firing ADs now, but he's going to do fine. I wish we'd have won that football game for our football players, our coach, and Hunter. But you don't know what's in the cards. I just know he's a good man." #WPS
Scaramucci: “I lasted only 11 days.”
Zacharia: “Hold my … beer.”
White House press secretary Katie Zacharia took the California bar exam but didn't pass it. Trump has referred to her as an attorney. on.wsj.com/4imanfV
Some politicians didn’t learn anything from Ken Paxton.
Just wait until the BIG 10 decides to oust all Ohio public universities from the league because the Governor of Ohio says they don’t have to follow the NCAA’s rules.
It appears the Ohio Supreme Court is intent on making Governor DeWine look like a donkey for pulling a political PR stunt.
Despite the Governor’s public comments, the Executive Order says on its face: “Nothing in this Order is intended to decide, or to direct any court concerning any matter pending before any court, or to require any institution to act contrary to an order of a court of competent jurisdiction.”

Having just listened to the oral argument in Wisne v. NCAA at the 10th Circuit, I think the NCAA will win 3-0 and it won't be close. With attorney Rakesh Kilaru arguing for the NCAA, the NCAA had a great day in court. The nationwide injunction is highly likely to be reversed IMO.
A showdown over NCAA eligibility arrives Tuesday at the 10th Circuit.
The ruling in Wisne v. NCAA could affect thousands of former college athletes, millions in NIL opportunities, and the future of eligibility litigation.

Lane is right. What’s more, I’m starting to question the legal acumen of the SEC.
In 2024, under a consent judgment filed in an antitrust lawsuit brought by the DOJ, ten states, and the District of Columbia, the NCAA agreed to stop enforcing the rule restricting DI athletes from transferring from one institution to another without sitting out a year.
Unless the SEC wants to be on the receiving end of a federal court lawsuit for the next couple of years, why would the league even think about resurrecting its intraconference transfer rule?
Kiffin just said on his coach’s show that the proposed mandate will be terrible, and the @SEC would allow a talent drain to other conferences, and conferences will actively use it as a recruiting tool.

NEW: The SEC is considering whether to repeat the NCAA’s mistake by resurrecting a rule that the NCAA abandoned in 2024 after getting sued by the DOJ and ten states because the NCAA transfer rule violated federal antitrust laws. 🤦🏻♂️
NEW: The SEC is considering restoring a transfer policy requiring intraconference athletes to sit out a year before playing for another SEC school, @PeteNakos reports.

Looks like 2027 will be another profitable year for sports lawyers. ⬇️
The CSC is conducting long-term investigations into multiple P4 schools, including several playoff contenders, @JTalty and I have learned
On those investigations & the challenges the CSC faces
"This is the hardest enforcement challenge in (US) sports"

Sources: Kansas State and former men’s basketball coach Jerome Tang are finalizing a settlement agreement, which will pay him $12 million between now and end of 2027. Kansas State attempted to fire Tang for cause last year. He was owed $18.7 million.
Courts throughout the country have said the adoption of a “presumptive denial policy” by an insurance company to deny claims is the epitome of bad faith. With a straight face, the NCAA tells a Florida Circuit Judge there is nothing unfair about having done the same thing regarding eligibility waivers. Not surprisingly, the Judge issued an injunction making the athlete eligible for the 2026-27 basketball season.
Replying to @FloridaBBHour
Court asks about NCAA memorandum which instructed staff to deny waivers.
NCAA states it doesn’t matter if that was their custom and practice as long as rules were applied fairly in this case.
I now understand that the majority of LSU fans on X think LSU is untouchable, the SEC is powerless to punish LSU, and that anyone who dares express a contrary opinion is a moron, a terrible lawyer, a delusional retard, and a horrible human being. LSU fans: Pardon me for being all of the above. For your sake, I hope I’m wrong. But if I’m not, don’t worry. I won’t call you a bunch of delusional retards. Sometimes it’s better to have an unexpressed thought.
😶💭
For LSU fans who think I’m a moron and/or an SEC shill, keep in mind that the SEC has taken under advisement what, if any, punishment the 15 Presidents and Greg Sankey will impose on LSU - a decision that doesn’t depend on whether the SEC’s lawsuit is dismissed or survives. It is routine for parties to agree to ask the court to extend a deadline to respond to a motion while trying to resolve a case, and a federal district judge would very likely allow that under the circumstances.
I think it was unwise for LSU to do anything that might “disappoint” the SEC while it has a gun to LSU’s head and Will Wade continues to taunt the league. I have no dog in this fight. That’s just my moronic take on LSU’s motion to dismiss.

I thought Ken Paxton was an instructive cautionary tale for AG’s about why you shouldn’t poke the bear. It seems the Louisiana AG wants to find out if the SEC is just a teddy bear or a grizzly taking a nap.
You know what they say about curiosity. 🐱☠️

The SEC, without notice, filed a complaint in federal court in Alabama against LSU then added the AG. The lawsuit was without merit, and the court lacked jurisdiction. The SEC has known this from the outset. I gave the SEC two weeks to dismiss this frivolous suit but it has not - so I took legally appropriate action to protect State interests.
“These universities operate like a Star Chamber.”
Great, in-depth reporting by @Williams_Justin on the ways that internal university investigations differ from those done by public companies.
The hottest trend in college sports investigations? No paper trail.
I wrote about how these high-profile external investigations at schools like Michigan and North Carolina are completed with no formal, written report.

Why are athletic directors becoming “fall guys”?, as @Brett_McMurphy suggests.
Board chairs and presidents who think they are experts on college athletics - but have zero experience or qualifications - are now the single biggest existential threat to athletic directors. I’ve observed this scenario as an insider three times in the past year. There’s always a bold statement about the suits in the ivory tower planning to create a new “modern” plan for athletics, and thus far, those plans have been a dud.
