Inmates are locked up from 16h00 until 06h00 daily. Visitation happens over weekends and at specific times during the week (appointment only), depending on the prison.
IT IS VERY HARD for them to access contraband from the outside world. No one in that situation has freedom to gather anything anywhere, unless someone they spend most time and have access with is making it possible for them, whom the raids/searches must be focused on.
This is how we solve problems in South Africa. We focus on the symptoms instead of dealing with the root cause.
These raids are nothing but theatrics. We cannot keep doing the same thing over and over again and celebrating it as an achievement. We know who is responsible for contraband to exist in prisons.
Anyone who has ever visited any prison facility in this country will tell you of how security in there makes it impossible to even suspect outsiders of being complacent, The Commissioner knows this too, he is just enjoying playing to the gallery.

@KobeMalebo, for someone who sits in Parliament you should know this: health awareness and outbreak response are run by the Health Department. That is exactly what we have been doing since day one, quietly, without dragging cameras into sick people's homes.
We don't measure care in photo ops. Two weeks before elections, the only one performing here is you and your party. Who’s in charge of ROC?
Sesi nyana @Ngwana_Badimu while we have you on twitter during a whole outbreak maybe we should take this unique opportunity to ask if you cared to do anything health related to assist the many sick families affected by this crisis.
1) how many health alerts have you raised as it relates to gastrointestinal infections?
2) Do you have a health campaign currently going on?
3) how many of the 433 cases of sick people have you attended to since the outbreak
4) how many health workers have you deployed to assist and support patients?
5) how many mobile clinics and other resources have you deployed to support the community of Bronkhorspruit?
The mayor is on the ground assisting families deal with the aftermath while you’re on twitter??
Two weeks before elections and all you will be remembered for as the MMC for Health is how 433 were abandoned by you while you ran around police stations opening cases. Well done!

@HermanMashaba you ran out of chlorine. Instead of closing the valves, you fed filthy water to communities for three weeks, and you didn't even inform them.
408 people are now sick, most of them children younger than four. This is a literal disaster.
Worse, you made us look like fools, running tests and taking samples, while you knew all along that you were feeding our people dirty water.
Spare us the lectures on hypocrisy.

I am the MMC of Health. My job was to sound the alarm on what looked like a diarrhoea outbreak, and I did. It was OUR Health Department, with the Tshwane District, that picked up the high numbers. Not your Mayor. Not your City Manager. Us.
Now let's talk about who actually failed.
Your Mayor is responsible for ROC and the water business unit. Your MMC of Corporate and Shared Services is responsible for Bronkhorstspruit. Your City Manager, the man you defended with everything, heads the administration. Where is he? On vacation, while children are falling ill.
So answer this, what does Health have to do with your incompetent officials who could not procure chlorine for three weeks, and then kept quiet until we exposed the crisis?
Was Health supposed to guess that your administration was feeding the public contaminated water? Were we supposed to procure the chlorine too? Must Health now run your water unit because your people can't?
Health told residents not to drink the water. Your administration let them drink it. That is a violation of human rights, and you want to talk about hypocrisy?
Spare us the deflection.
