When the Prime Minister pledged to end rough sleeping, we said we'd move urgently from words to action. Today we're delivering on that promise.
This funding will help thousands of people leave the streets behind, move into secure homes and get the support they need to rebuild their lives.

With £2 fares and kids going free on buses this summer, we're providing families with the little bit of breathing space that we know is needed. 🚆🚌🚏

Two weeks ago today, I admitted that politics has not been working for you and that we all need to raise our game.
I meant it.
So here's just some of what we've announced in the first fortnight:
✅ New national drive to end rough sleeping
✅ Tax cut on energy bills
✅ £2 cap on bus fares in England
✅ Record numbers of NCA officers deployed to tackle gangs behind small boat crossings
✅ 20% cut in business rates for thousands of pubs, clubs, and music venues
✅ Number 10 North, driving power out of Westminster and into every postcode across the country
✅ 14-year-olds will have early access to technical education, skills training and connections with employers
✅ Plan to fix our broken social care system
✅ Investment in our nuclear deterrent, supporting 22,000 apprenticeships
✅ Local mayors will get a share of income tax
This is just the start. I know a fortnight does not fix a country.
But I said I would do things differently, and I am.

Today I’m announcing a major investment in our nuclear deterrent, supporting 22,000 apprenticeships.
Keeping this country safe is the first responsibility of any government - but security isn’t just about what we build, it’s about who builds it.
The submarines produced in Barrow protect us all, the jobs and apprenticeships they create change lives.
This is Britain - reindustrialised.

The funding was originally announced in the Defence Investment Plan under former PM Keir Starmer earlier in 2026, with the work on the DIP having started a year prior, before Burnham was even an MP.

Today we're giving local leaders more power to shape transport in their community.
Locally funded transport schemes up to £500m no longer need Whitehall approval, meaning fewer projects get bogged down by bureaucracy, and you get the services that make your life easier. 🚆🚉🚌

For too long, we’ve been told that ending rough sleeping will take decades or even that it's impossible. I'm not having that.
This is something a government can fix if it chooses to. Today, I’m choosing to.
