A Covey of partridge winter 22/23 Co Durham. Huddled together to conserve body heat during cold winter nights, however it’s not just warmth, you’ll notice the birds face outwards watching for any nocturnal predators such as red foxes 🦊 a fascinating glimpse into their life.

If you have seen the recent news on the spiralling hedgehog population here is a thread worthy of note. Jeremy knows his stuff, because he does the stuff.
This tidiness trope needs to stop, @BenGoldsmith because it distracts from the real reasons why hedgehogs are disappearing. Weather extremes are affecting their food supply (this year no slugs and worms gone deep due to drought). More on this later..1/9 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly5…

We'd just finished the hedgerow management plan on a lovely farm in North Essex. As we had a cup of tea on the tailgate before heading home, I said the fateful words "I haven't seen any deer today." "Hold my beer" said the fallow.

At the Public Accounts Committee, I asked Harry Metcalfe, owner of Harry's Farm, what one thing the Government could do to support farmers. It has been made extremely clear that if Defra wants to be fit for purpose, it needs to start listening to our farmers. #Somerset #Devon

I have spent over 25 years of my professional career to research and demonstrate how to reverse the decline of #farmlandbirds. We know how to do it, but are lacking suitable policies to pay for it. theguardian.com/environment/…

I have been harping on about the repercussions of our deer over population for years, largely in the context of hedgerow and woodland damage. Now it's as a TB vector. It's now time for serious action...and no, the solution isn't wolves. fwi.co.uk/news/vets-call-for…

British pig farming is in crisis. Don't just talk about supporting our farmers. Make the rules support them too. If British farmers have to meet welfare standards, imported pork should have to meet them too. Same shelves. Same standards. And made here isn't the same as raised here. Check where the pork actually comes from. This won't fix the whole crisis on its own. But fair competition has to be part of the answer. This weekend, wherever you buy it, back British pork. Do you agree? #BackBritishFarming #BritishPork @AnnaLongthorp @1GarethWynJones @NoFarmsNoFoods @JamesMelville

Strange times to live through right now. The Green Party has dispensed with the old badges and have brought in new badges. They are a scary bunch.
