#Lions HC Dan Campbell explains why he went for it on fourth down from his own 24 with the game tied: “I know what you’re conceding, but I also know without any doubt that we’re getting the ball back with plenty of time to answer and rebut whatever they’ve done. It was really that simple."
The #Lions just went for it on 4th-and-1 from their own 24 in a tie game. It didn't work. I don't know, man.

Richard Allen saw it coming, and he told his wife what to do. Ask for the video. Ask for the audio. Then listen to it -- all of it -- in order. That is exactly what we intend on doing.   November 2026: Descent Into Hell 6/6 #FreeRicky #FreeRickAllen #RichardAllen #Delphi

The man who woke up. When Rick’s psychosis finally lifted, the incriminating statements stopped: "I lost that three or four months where I don't remember any of it," he said in October. A week earlier, Rick had asked Kathy: "How can you tell the truth when you don't even know the truth?" Rick's case rests on everything happening in his world at once: lifelong depression, months of isolation, days without sleep, constant accusation through the door, and a mind that had stopped trusting itself and was coming apart. 5/

The break. Within ten days, the prison's own records describe Rick as naked, drinking from the toilet, eating his own feces, and saying he might be God. The prison psychiatrist, Dr. Martin, wrote that he could not figure out the cause of "this abrupt onset of psychosis." The diagnosis was major depression with psychotic features, and Rick was given antipsychotic injections (Haldol) against his will. Rick’s diagnosis of MDD with psychotic features has a signature symptom: delusions of guilt. One study found delusions of guilt in 40 percent of patients with psychotic depression (Picardi et al., Frontiers in Psychiatry, 2018). Rick's incriminating statements contradicted one another and contradicted the evidence: on April 3, he said the victims were shot; in reality, the victims were stabbed. An independent neuropsychological evaluation later ruled out signs of malingering on all formal measures/validity testing. Dr. Monica Wala, Rick’s treating psychologist, wrote down many of his alleged statements; and she later testified that she had followed the Delphi case for years through podcasts and online groups, and had formed a “profile of the killer” before she ever met Rick. None of their sessions were apparently recorded. 4/

April 3, 2023. The phone call timestamps alone tell an important part of the story: calls went out at 11:44 p.m., 11:55 p.m., 3:12 a.m., 5:14 a.m., and 8:45 a.m. Rick was not sleeping. In a controlled experiment, a single sleepless night made innocent people about four and a half times more likely to sign a false admission (Frenda et al., PNAS, 2016). Rick had gone far longer than one night without sleep. At 3:12 a.m. Rick told his father: “I don't know how much longer I'm going to be lucid." At 5:14 a.m. Rick told Kathy: “I evidently did it… Because maybe I did." 3/

Five months of "I didn't do it" For five months, Rick told everyone the same thing: "I didn't do it… It's not true," he told his psychologist on November 21. All the while, Rick's phone calls to his family trace a mind unraveling: - Late November: His Seroquel had been stopped. "Now I just lay and can't close my eyes." - December: "I'm scared that by the time I'm able to come home to you… I'm not going to be me." - January 4: "I can't tell what's real and what's dream anymore." - February 14: "Am I really in prison?" - February 17: "Did I call you last night?… I don't know if I was dreaming." None of this is unusual; in fact, it is precisely what the research predicts: a meta-analysis covering 382,440 incarcerated people linked solitary confinement to worse psychotic and mood symptoms, self-harm, and suicide, beyond the effects of prison itself (Luigi et al., Frontiers in Psychiatry, 2020). Forensic psychologist Gudjonsson describes "memory distrust syndrome”: under isolation, constant accusation, and intense emotion, a person stops trusting his own memory and starts taking on the account his surroundings supply. Gudjonsson's case example was a man in solitary confinement who falsely confessed to murder (Cortex, 2017). By late March, the warning signs of Rick's psychosis were glaring: he reported a sudden religious conversion/preoccupation; he said, "Maybe I'm not even doing it. Maybe I just think I am”; and in one late-night call, he asked Kathy a dozen times whether her Bible matched his, "to make sure that I'm not on drugs right now." 2/

Rick's own words. On March 12, 2023, Richard Allen gave his wife Kathy an instruction from inside his solitary cell at Westville Correctional Facility: "I worry that they're going to take me and drug me or torture me and try to get a false confession out of me," he told Kathy. "If they ever try to say that I confessed, you need to ask to see the video and the audio." Three weeks later, sleepless and disoriented, Rick would tell Kathy he had killed two girls; and the State would build its entire case around those very words. Played in order, however, the recorded calls tell a completely different story. The man who walked in. When Rick arrived at Westville in November 2022, he was 50 years old. He had been married to Kathy since 1991, had no criminal record and no history of violence. He did, however, carry a long psychiatric history: major depression and generalized anxiety since childhood, and a 2019 hospitalization for suicidal thinking. Rick’s own treating psychologist, Dr. Monica Wala, testified under oath that the State put him in the most restrictive placement the facility had: solitary confinement within Westville’s Restrictive Housing Unit (the SHU). Rick’s cell was about 8½ by 12½ feet, his mattress lay on a steel plate inches off the ground, an in-cell camera ran around the clock; the lights never fully turned off, and men screamed "kill yourself" and other abuses at him nearly 24/7. 1/
