In January 2012, the Colts hired Chuck Pagano and Ryan Grigson. The owner's daughter, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, came out of that cycle clueless. She could judge personalities, not qualifications. So she went to school on the game. Film sessions. Meetings. Practices. Then she asked for a headset on game days, and she has worn one ever since, with a play-call sheet and a notepad, listening for all 60 minutes. Soft questions get soft answers. A question carries weight only after the person asking has paid for it with study. Learn it before the hire or learn it after the mistake. The education is the same. The tuition gets more expensive.

I wish somebody would’ve taught me this before I started reading my Bible. If you want to know who Jesus is, read the book of John. If you want to go deeper into your identity in Christ, read the book of Ephesians. If you want to learn how to live in holiness in a GODLESS culture… read the book of 1 Corinthians. If you want to have wisdom for life, read the book of Proverbs. If you want to know the origin of the universe and everything that exists, and why the world is broken today, read the book of Genesis. If you want to understand the Gospel and learn what you should believe as a Christian, read the book of Romans. If you want to understand why life without God has no meaning (even if you achieve success, status, money, and pleasure…) read Ecclesiastes. If you want to learn how to find joy in the midst of your trial and suffering, read Philippians. If you want to hear how the church was born and what the first Christians did through the power of the Holy Spirit, read the book of Acts. If you want to learn how to put your faith into practice, read the book of James. If you want to learn how to pray with honesty, even in the midst of lament, read the book of Psalms. If you want to see a preview of what will happen in the future and remind yourself that, in the end, Christ wins every battle, read the book of Revelation. St Jerome was right when he said: “The Scriptures are shallow enough for a babe to come and drink without fear of drowning…. and deep enough for a theologian to swim in without ever touching the bottom" You CANNOT read the Bible and not have it change your life.

ESPN once ranked Myron Rolle the best high school football player in America. He never played a single down in an NFL regular season game. Today he operates on children's brains. Rolle grew up in Galloway Township, New Jersey. His parents are from the Bahamas. He went to the Hun School of Princeton and by 2006 the recruiting services had him at the top of the board, a five star safety every program in the country wanted. He picked Florida State. Then he finished his bachelor's degree in exercise science in two and a half years with a 3.75 GPA, and made third team All-American in 2008. And then he won a Rhodes Scholarship. The interview was in Birmingham, Alabama, on a Saturday, the same day Florida State was playing at Maryland. The NCAA let him charter a plane. He sat for the interview, found out he had won, got on the plane, landed in College Park and played in the game. Here is where it turns. He was projected as a first or second round NFL pick. Instead he skipped the entire 2009 season and went to Oxford for a year to earn a master's degree in medical anthropology. When he came back, the league had moved on. The Tennessee Titans took him in the sixth round, 207th overall, in 2010. Two hundred and six players went ahead of a kid who had been the number one recruit in the country. He never appeared in a regular season game for Tennessee. He spent a stretch with the Pittsburgh Steelers and got released. That was it. That was the whole NFL career. In 2013 he walked away from football entirely and enrolled at the Florida State College of Medicine. He was 26 and starting over in a field where everybody else had been pointed at it since undergrad. He graduated in 2017. Then he matched into neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, which is roughly the hardest thing in American medicine to get into. Then a pediatric fellowship at Johns Hopkins. In the spring of 2020 he was a resident working hospital floors during COVID. Today he is a pediatric neurosurgeon at Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando. He runs the Myron L. Rolle Foundation, which does health and education work for children and families who need it. Be honest about the football part. Nobody can prove Oxford cost him. Scouts had real questions about whether he would commit to the sport, and plenty of number one recruits never make it for reasons that have nothing to do with a scholarship. But here is what we know for sure. He was told he was throwing away a career. He went anyway. And the thing everybody was afraid he would choose instead of football is the reason some kid in Orlando is going to wake up tomorrow. i am so tired of people shit talking texas because "it's too hot." you know what's great about texas? sunshine. water. and this incredible invention called air conditioning. you know what actually sucks? the cold. waking up to gray skies for months on end. shoveling snow. scraping ice off your windshield. putting on 5,000 layers just to walk outside and still feeling like your fingers are going to fall off. i would rather sweat my ass off walking to my air-conditioned car than spend half the year freezing and miserable. and with all the money you're saving on state income taxes, you can afford to take a vacation somewhere cooler when you need a break. i will die on this hill. texas heat is not that bad. winter is infinitely worse.

Steve Sarkisian reveals he couldn’t get a job interview in 2015 before Nick Saban gave him a $30,000/yr analyst job that saved his career “In 2015, I had gotten fired at USC, gone to recovery, started working on me personally. Coming out of that, I couldn’t get a job. In 2016, I was ready to go do TV.” “I couldn’t get an interview for a job. And Nick Saban saved my career. He offered me an analyst job. I was willing to do it for free.” “But he said, ‘I gotta pay you $30,000 so you can get benefits.’ I said, ‘Okay, I’ll do that.’ I’m forever indebted to him. Because at that time, somebody in life has got to give all of us a second chance.” “It totally changed my perspective. It changed my perspective on how I coach. How I deal with our players. Because everybody’s going through stuff. Everybody’s got stuff.” “Whatever your stuff is, you’re just trying to get through it. If I can be that guy that can extend that olive branch to our players as we go through this journey, I always lean back to that time.” “Here’s the greatest coach of all time in our era. For whatever reason, he saw something in me. He gave me a chance. He gave me a shot.” “From there, he actually makes me the offensive coordinator for the National Championship game against Clemson. And I was an analyst. I wasn’t even a coach.”
