I'm all for UBI as long as basic means more than just above the poverty line. We only have one life.

.@soundboy is a true 🇬🇧 patriot. The positive impact of his energy and determination will be massive and enduring.
I believe Ian Hogarth - @soundboy - deserves much wider and deeper credit and recognition for voluntarily forfeiting shares in Anthropic so that he could set up and run the AI Security Institute (@AISecurityInst) - where he, and Britain, are generally acclaimed to be doing an outstanding job. (Something else he deserves greater credit for). This noble decision was *very* expensive. I also believe, and hope, that for our fast-growing audience this may be one of the most useful conversations they hear about Technology this year. We go deep on: > What is AI? > The real rate at which it is developing > The race dynamic in global innovation > Humanity’s fork in the road > The significant chance of a huge market crash > The exhilarating case Quantum Computing > The exhilarating case for Fusion > The exhilarating potential for Robotics > Why outstanding British companies sometimes struggle to scale > How Britain, and Europe, can lead > The Future of jobs > How Founders succeed > His noble decision to do a public service role > His fantasy for Battersea Power station Ian is co-Founder and Partner at Plural, and co-Founder and Chair of the UK's AI Security Institute (@AISecurityInst). This was a great, immensely useful conversation and I'd be honoured if you lent an ear to The Amol Rajan Connection. Out now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and YouTube. Thanks for your time and attention to this matter.

I shall be travelling to London for the UK Supreme Court hearing on Palestine Action on 4 and 5 November, to support my friend and colleague Huda Ammori. Is this a criminal offence, @metpoliceuk ? Will people be arrested for going to the Supreme Court?

No minimum wage = abject poverty Anyone working, regardless of what they do deserve no less than a good life.
This picture should be shared far & wide to explain wage compression You have people with years experience earning a tiny amount more than minimum wage It’ll push decline further as people will continue not to care about the country There is no reward for improving ones self

The more I think about UBI the more I see how dangerous of an idea it is. UBI would "help" society look the other way to the poverty coming, thinking there is support for everyone. UBI=POVERTY Poverty is not the answer
UBI isn't the only answer to AI job losses. It's the floor everything else stands on. Hinton calls it "a good start." Amodei says tax AI companies to fund it. We agree.

We're all in the same boat. etc.
This Forbes investigation is a must-read. Donald Trump pulled in roughly $1.4 billion from crypto in 2025, plus more than $200 million from real estate, and faced a projected tax bill north of $500 million. So his company donated the "development rights" to his Jupiter, Florida golf course to a land trust, argued the course was a natural habitat worth protecting, and kept right on running the club. Forbes estimates the write-off could land around $825 million. He has done this at least five times since 2005. New York's attorney general alleged two of those appraisals were inflated. In Doral, he claimed a deduction of up to $323 million, more than double what he paid for the entire resort. A month after the Jupiter deal, he sued the IRS. The settlement his own Justice Department signed bars claims against him over matters that "could be pending," language that appears broad enough to cover this year's taxes. A federal judge found the case was brought to manipulate the judicial process. And the man now running the IRS, who took the job as this deal was being assembled, has a home backing onto those same Jupiter fairways. This is absolutely ridiculous. Nobody should be able to use the presidency to write his own tax bill. forbes.com/sites/danalexande…

It's truly dreadful that people think the pandemic is over...when there are thousands still paying their Bounce Back LOANs...when the other 90% of UK taxpayers were awarded grants that they didn't have to pay back. #ExcludedUK don't have a problem with that, nobody would have survived without them... but why were 10% left out?!? Why was it OK for 1 member of ExcludedUK to take their own life, let alone 40... and they are the ones we have been notified about....there will be thousands more we don't know about... Last Friday another #ExcludedUK member lost their house as they could not keep up with mortgage AND BBL repayments.... how is that even allowed??!!? @MartinSLewis your team told Head of #ExcludedUK, Jennifer Griffiths, that you could not campaign with us any longer as you were concentrating on your own projects... but nothing has changed since you last campaigned with us...in fact, it has got worse... more people have lost homes, businesses, personal possessions, and lives! Please help us... I know you are busy, but despite all his promises, @andyburnham has gone quiet on us! Jennifer is still dealing with attempted suicides and the families of those who have taken their own life as a result of being excluded... it is just not right! Please email Jennifer and work out a way to help us. [email protected] excludeduk.org

If I may say so, I think you misunderstand. Politically-motivated cuts in BBC funding and the encouragement of people not to pay the licence fee are forcing these immensely painful cuts. It’d be nice if the blame were placed where it belongs.

🚨 IT’S FINALLY LIVE! PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE OUR EXCLUDEDUK PETITION 🚨 After waiting for it to be approved and published, I can finally say it: My Parliamentary petition calling for financial redress for the 3.8 million taxpayers excluded from Covid-19 financial support is now LIVE!!! ✍️ PLEASE SIGN IT HERE: petition.parliament.uk/petit… The petition calls on the Government to: “Establish a fair financial redress scheme for the 3.8 million taxpayers excluded from Covid-19 financial support, reflecting the support received by comparable taxpayers and businesses.” For more than six years, millions of people who dutifully paid into the system have been fighting to be heard. Newly self-employed people. Company directors. Freelancers. New starters. Those denied furlough. PAYE freelancers. People earning over the SEISS threshold. Those affected by maternity, pensions and other circumstances. People lost income, businesses, homes and financial security while others in comparable circumstances received substantial Government support. The consequences did not simply disappear when lockdown ended. This petition is our opportunity to show Parliament that the excluded have NOT gone away. 📣 WE NEED 10,000 SIGNATURES for a Government response. 📣 WE NEED 100,000 SIGNATURES for the petition to be considered for debate in Parliament. So please do three things: ✅ SIGN IT ✅ SHARE IT ✅ Ask everyone you know to sign and share it too Please share it on Facebook, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp, email and anywhere else you can. Tag your MP. Tag journalists. Tag broadcasters. Tag anyone who supported the excluded. We need to get this in front of as many people as possible. After six years of campaigning, we are still here. We are still fighting. And we will continue until the 3.8 million excluded taxpayers finally receive the recognition, justice and financial redress they deserve. Dutifully paid in. Deliberately left out. 👉 petition.parliament.uk/petit… #ExcludedUK #ExcludedUKPetition #FinancialRedress #CovidSupport #3Point8Million #DutifullyPaidInDeliberatelyLeftOut @RichardNewby3 @switherdenMP @MP4Stratford @AlPinkerton @gregsmith_uk @SadieMHarris @ExcludedFighter @JohnMartinComic @Euan4Falkirk @iqbalmohamedMP @JakeBenRichards @KimJohnsonMP @BeaversLorraine @OllyGloverLD @PaulKohlerSW19 @RebeccaHarrisMP @RosieDuffield1 @RupaHuq @SorchaEastwood @StephenGethins @SteveDarlingMP @timfarron @VikkiSlade72 @WillForster @ZoeFranklinLD @APPGGapsSupport @UKLabour @LibDems @Conservatives @theSNP @reformparty_uk @thisisyourparty @Plaid_Cymru @TheGreenParty @thatginamiller @MartinSLewis @JohnDCaudwell @itvnews @GMB @GBNEWS @BigIssue @LBC @itvnews @BBCNews @PA @AP @BBCBreakfast

WORDS MATTER… ACTION MATTERS MORE! On 24 June 2024, during an ExcludedUK livestream, @AndyBurnham spoke clearly about what could still be done for the 3.8 million UK taxpayers excluded from parity of Covid-19 financial support. He said: “I think there are ways we can start to frame financial asks that I think are fair, proportionate and doable.” More than two years later, those words remain just as important. Andy has consistently been one of ExcludedUK’s strongest political supporters. He recognised that what happened to the 3.8 million was not simply an unfortunate consequence of the pandemic response. It was an injustice. He told our community: “The public see you and the public support you.” He also pledged: “We will work with you to make sure that the excluded is recognised as one of the injustices that this country needs to rectify.” And he was unequivocal that time did not diminish that commitment: “I supported you back in the pandemic, and we support you now. The passage of time doesn’t change that.” Today, as Prime Minister, Andy Burnham is in a position to help turn those commitments into meaningful action. #ExcludedUK is ready to work constructively with the Prime Minister and the Gaps in Covid-19 Financial Support APPG to explore financial redress that is fair, proportionate and achievable. Because after more than six years, the consequences cannot simply be forgotten. Businesses were lost... and are still being lost! Homes were lost...and reposessions continue... Livelihoods and futures were destroyed.. yep! Still ongoing! More than 40 members of our community saw no other way out than to take their own lives....and they are only the ones we have been made aware of! The 3.8 million deserve more than acknowledgement of what happened. They deserve recognition, accountability and justice. Recognition is fair. Accountability is proportionate. Justice is doable. Prime Minister, the opportunity is now there to begin that work. Please contact Head of ExcludedUK, Jennifer Griffiths, at [email protected] MPs from all parties are invited to join the APPG on Gaps in Covid-19 Financial Support as an Ordinary Member and help ensure the voices of the 3.8 million are heard in Parliament. To join, please email: Jennifer Griffiths APPG Secretariat Secretary 📧 [email protected] 🌐 excludeduk.org Dutifully paid in.
