📚 NEW BOOK RELEASE The Boom Effect: amazon.in/Boom-Effect-Decodi… ABOUT THE BOOK Last year, @brookeswrites and I travelled to Ahmedabad in search of Jassi - the lanky boy from Thaltej who grew up to be ‘Boom’. More than a decade since Jasprit Bumrah’s international debut, the footsteps of his stuttering approach to superstardom remained obscured. Who coached him? How did that awkward, hyper-extended action come to be? What alchemy allowed him to bowl with such ferocity, from a run-up barely longer than a yard of string? And where did that preternatural calmness come from - the ice-cold composure that never seemed to crack? As the sport increasingly resembled a gentleman’s agreement to let batters prosper, how did he - an unrepentant saboteur of such arrangements - keep finding new ways to be a nuisance? For most Indian cricketers, mythology begins to calcify within days of their debut. Before long, there are endless interviews, breathless profiles, even biopics. The machinery of hero-worship churns out stories like an all-you-can-eat buffet - shiny new narratives emerge and disappear faster than they can be gobbled up. But Bumrah wilfully let the public starve. He emerged from Ahmedabad like a magician bursting forth from a cloud of smoke. One day, no one knew his name; the next, his broad smile and splayed limbs were being beamed into living rooms across the world. With each new discovery, we had newer questions popping up. We came to realize that the lack of any parasocial relationship between Bumrah and his fans, or of any sense of public selfhood, was itself a part of the story. We tried to find our answers. A generous foreword by @afidelf

We stop feeling the emotions and euphoria because we are used to watching it and have out-grown emotionally. The next generation of fans will have such games to make them immune to it. We are becoming what we don’t like, saying everything was best only when we saw it first!
You see so many 50’s of 3 overs being chased with ease these days, seldom feel the emotions or euphoria!! then you recall Bumrah’s absolute brilliance against Miller and Jensen in defending 30 of 30 in t20 finals… Absolutely generational stuff…

In different ways those were two poor shots, but look at the movement from Boland. Same line, two very different deliveries.

I don't understand this weird tweet. Every great Indian batter (you can start with Merchant or even Nayudu or even go further back) was dismissed in domestic cricket by bowlers who never played for India. Since Ranji began in the 1930s, of them were "Ranji level" bowlers.
I don't hate Shubman Gill but you all have to admit Sachin & Virat never got bullied by some Ranji level spinner! Shubman is far behind, he has to work a lot to reach the levels of Sachin & Virat!

It is pretty wild he hasn't played a single match in India yet. Feels like it could have been a natural way to ease him in if nothing else.
VAIBHAV SOORYAVANSHI FOR INDIA. 🇮🇳 - Under Gautam Gambhir played 3 out of 14 matches. - Under VVS Laxman played 5 out of 5 matches.

One thing about Rohit u have to accept is he has evolved greatly as a batter post Covid. He has had too many knocks where the wkt and conditions were challenging. Chepauk 100, Ahmedabad 50, Lords 80, Oval & Nagpur 100s. Then the 80 odd at Lucknow in WC, or how he took on Henry in Dharmashala under haze, t20 wc semi 50, Yesterday when the ball was nipping around a lot, or the way he changed his game in PP since the Australia series before 2023 WC, then the Sri Lanka Odi series post t20 wc. Too many games to suggest he has constantly adjusted to the conditions and he'll be turning 40 next summer so really worth appreciating that he is still motivated.
