In 2024, MAGA Republicans were more likely than non-MAGA non-Republicans to view political violence as justified + to endorse beliefs associated w/ violence, but they were generally not more willing to commit such violence themselves. cvp.ucdavis.edu/research/pre…
Additionally, MAGA Republicans may serve as credible messengers in efforts to dissuade others from committing political violence. Read the full pre-print: doi.org/10.31235/osf.io/fzc8…
Our findings suggest the need for interventions directed at reducing support for political violence among MAGA Republicans and others who believe that it can be justified.
MAGA Republicans, as defined, are a distinct group holding extreme views. They are also more likely than non-MAGA non-Republicans to endorse beliefs and attributes associated with political violence, including racism and homonegativity.
