I'm proud to report that for the first time in history, the @UN has achieved gender parity across all senior leadership, headquarters & professional staff. We removed barriers, challenged assumptions & refused to accept that power must look as it always has. And we never compromised on quality & competence. If the UN can do it, so can governments, parliaments & businesses everywhere.

Technology that will shape the future of humanity must be shaped by all of humanity.  It cannot be governed by a handful of countries or companies. Every nation needs a seat at the table.  Technology must serve people – not the other way around.

As we remember the victims of the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica, we must confront a difficult reality that hate speech is on the rise – fueling discrimination, extremism & division. AI may feel intangible, but its footprint is not. Data centres already consume more electricity than most countries. I’m calling on every major AI company to measure & publicly disclose the full footprint of its systems & to commit to power every data centre with renewable energy by 2030.
