Once again, a white supremacist targeted a community just because of who they are. I stand in solidarity with the Indian community and with my colleague @CongressmanRaja and his family. People have the right to feel free and safe to worship without fear of violence.

I am incredibly grateful that local law enforcement thwarted this attempted mass shooting by a white supremacist and that the worshipers at this temple are safe.
Attacks on South Asians have been on the rise, online and by leaders in our own government. This hate, racism, and violence are absolutely unacceptable, are traumatizing our communities, and must end.

Everyone deserves to feel safe while they practice their faith. That is foundational to the Freedom of Worship. The scourge of hatred in our country, including against our Hindu and Indian-American neighbors, MUST be addressed if we are to live in a free society.
The rise in hatred against those who are not white is anti-American. It is reminiscent of the days of Jim Crow and the KKK and has been fomented by Donald Trump and his goons in the White House.

Today, ICE shot a New Yorker in his car in the Bronx—with a five-year-old boy in the back seat.
Read that again: A five-year-old child was in the back seat when ICE opened fire on a car today.
This is horrific, cruel, and unconscionable. It is un-American.
I’m relieved that the person who was shot is expected to survive and that the child was not physically harmed. But this never should have happened.
These rogue federal agents cannot continue to terrorize our communities. The agents involved must be held fully accountable for this violence. We need to get ICE off of our streets, away from our children, and out of our city for good.
