ALT Systematic Review and Comparative Outcomes Analysis of NHP Liver Allotransplants and Xenotransplants Journal: Xenotransplantation Authors: Kasra Shirini, Raphael P. H. Meier Affiliation: Division of Transplant Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, USA Correspondence: Raphael P. H. Meier ([email protected]) Received: August 29, 2024 | Accepted: January 22, 2025 Abstract: This study examines xenotransplantation as a bridge-to-transplant option for acute liver failure patients ineligible for transplantation. A systematic review of 203 pig-to-NHP and NHP-to-NHP transplants across 23 studies was conducted. Findings show limited survival (max ~1 month) in xenotransplantation, improved by genetic modifications and auxiliary techniques. Challenges include bleeding and coagulation dysregulation. Data highlight the potential and limitations of NHP liver xenotransplant models.
