Three waves of ballistic missiles have been launched at Kyiv by Russian “humanitarians” since yesterday evening. They used 21 missiles. Unfortunately, numerous sites across the city have been hit and damaged: ordinary residential buildings, energy facilities, infrastructure at one of the railway stations and the metro, shopping malls, and businesses. Even a monastery is among the damaged sites. Our emergency services are working at all the affected locations. Twelve of our regions came under Russian attack overnight. In Kyiv and across the regions, 34 people were injured, including five children. As of now, two people have been confirmed killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones.
Almost immediately after another round of talks, Russia launched a pointed attack. This means there has been no real change in its attitude toward everything that is happening. It is important to keep trying to find the right solutions to end this war. But when Russia responds to negotiations with ballistic missiles, real pressure on Russia is needed to bring about different steps – steps toward ending the killing. Stronger air defenses and the rapid delivery of missiles, the ability to destroy ballistic missile launchers, sanctions over the war – all of this must be in place. I am grateful to everyone who sees the situation for what it is and acknowledges the reality. The aggressor deserves to be treated accordingly. Ukraine deserves support. People's lives deserve protection. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine!

Russia nearly knocked out a Finnish satellite intentionally, the U.N. determined.
As just announced in the @UN First Committee, Russia’s COSMOS 2612 military satellite has been exhibiting threatening behavior by intentionally maneuvering dangerously close to a commercial satellite, behaviors consistent with on-orbit weapons operations. This violates long-established safety thresholds in low Earth orbit. The United States will continue to secure and defend American vital national security interests in, from, and to space.

🚨🚨🚨 Russia sues its own warship builder over $11M claim.
The 🇷🇺 Russian Defence Ministry has filed an $11.4M claim against Severnaya Verf, the state-controlled shipyard responsible for building some of Russia's most advanced frigates and corvettes. 🚢
The grounds for the lawsuit remain undisclosed, while United Shipbuilding Corporation has declined to comment.
Meanwhile, the shipyard is already facing nearly $290M in claims linked to delayed civilian vessels.
The case adds to mounting legal and financial pressures on one of Russia's key naval shipbuilders, raising further questions about the challenges facing Moscow's shipbuilding industry. ⚠️

Remember - Taiz has been under the Houthi siege for over a decade now, circumstances have always been difficult.
It's just now, dynamics are truly different compared to back then.
Not that a lot of people care since Houthis have Western left backing so Taiz suffering is ok.
Taiz after several weeks of encirclement by the Houthis:
"Households were running out of food and clean drinking water, and hospitals had nearly depleted their stocks of fuel and medical supplies."
"Vegetables are nearly impossible to find, and without gas, families are heating their meals by burning firewood, coal or cardboard boxes." nytimes.com/2026/10/20/world…

Reprise of an earlier drawing with some A3J (A-5 variants) assuming it had an internal bomb bay and the increased utility in the conventional role led to more use and some export success. From the Aerofax minigraph on the A3J, part of the consideration for the linear bomb bay in the A3J was fitting of a rocket motor, which was something of a brainworm for late 50s aircraft concepts. (It was briefly tried with a modified FJ-4, and I believe early F8U concepts considered it.)
Going back to the half-fleshed out 1960 ringworld copy-paste that I've been using as justification for these doodles, putting the "seam" of where Earth's surface gets unrolled onto the ringworld at roughly 180 E is going to put Australia and particularly Japan in a tough spot, since they're now much farther away from the US. Especially given the possibility of secondary shenanigans such as the Soviets/DPRK taking a chance at grabbing the ROK with the US far away, Soviet-aligned Indonesia getting zesty (a concern for Australia, who considered buying Vigilantes IRL, and would also increase the effective distance from the US to Japan), Soviet-aligned Arab countries closing the Suez and making the transit even worse, the JCP (who based on my cursory knowledge was a big deal in the early 60s) trying something with Soviet support, etc. Would probably get Australia to pour a lot into defense and might get the US and Japan to scrap Article 9 if they get spooked enough.

“a short but intensive operation … [to target] Iran’s energy infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and missile and drone arsenal. Some officials say one more big round of attacks could push Iran’s economy over the brink and force the country to make diplomatic concessions after nearly eight months of conflict”

A U.S. official and a senior military official told CBS News @ellee_watson & @JimLaPorta that the reductions at US military bases in Mideast were being taken because of ongoing regional threats like the Houthis as well as threats from Iran directly. In addition, the US State Dept publicly ordered departure of non-emergency U.S. government employees & their family from Saudi Arabia only; @Olivia_Gazis & I are also hearing of reductions in staffing elsewhere in region.
