The BBC has agreed to pay £400,000 to an award-winning Jewish documentary-maker who alleged she was subjected to antisemitism and pushed out of the corporation after October 7. Lucie Kon, 57, spent 22 years at the BBC and worked on programmes including Panorama, Today, BBC Breakfast and Storyville. Films she commissioned or helped produce won an Oscar, Emmy and Bafta. Kon says her treatment changed dramatically after the Hamas attacks. She alleges colleagues described Zionists like her as “evil”, argued that Israel should be called terrorist if Hamas was, and told her to consider what had driven Hamas to carry out the massacre. When she proposed a documentary about October 7, Kon says she was told she was “too partial” to oversee it because she was Jewish. She subsequently filed a formal grievance, but a BBC investigation rejected her complaint. Kon says she was then kept away from work for months. During a restructuring, her position was made redundant and she failed to secure the similar role replacing it. She launched unfair-dismissal proceedings. The BBC has now agreed substantial compensation, reported as £400,000, without admitting liability or accepting that Kon suffered antisemitism. Kon says Jewish employees still at the corporation continue to face hostility and feel unable to identify openly as Jewish or Zionist.

From the flags they're flying and the outfits they're wearing, this is NOT about having great schools, and an affordable cost of living. These are violent people, burning everything in their path.

#BREAKINGNEWS: A man accused of killing a North Carolina college student 14 years ago was convicted Friday of first-degree murder, rape and other charges after prosecutors told jurors that forensic evidence was “screaming his name.” Faith Hedgepeth was a 19-year-old sophomore when she was beaten to death in her off-campus apartment in September 2012. abc7ne.ws/0gHEqw

Viewing this with sadness from afar. You're correct to call this out, and to call it racist. A turning point: No! It isn't. ✅Charlie Hebdo - 2015 ✅Bataclan Concert - 130 killed. 400+ injured by an ISIS terrorist cell. ✅Dr. Sarah Halimi, 65 Murdered by Kobili Traoré 2017

The speed limits on Starlink and Starshield are still there. The speed has not been restored. And the delivery of interceptors to protect us against Russian ballistic missiles is still delayed. We’re waiting for interceptors that were already agreed on. But they are still not coming. This is a real problem, because the Russians attack us almost every single day. All of this is happening while we continue our quite successful operations on the front. We keep defending positions. Things have become harder – partly because of the Starlink and Starshield policies and speed limits. But our frontline is still holding and I am proud of how strong our people are. "Concentration camps" were not places where people sat around. They were labor camps. Prisoners often worked outdoors with inadequate food, lightweight clothing in freezing cold, knowing other members of their family had already been killed. Unable to work? You're killed.

Not a Melania fan, but even I have to admit, this would be super-wonderful if... a) It's even remotely true b) The ceasefire actually occurs

Kitten rescued.
Animal rescuers in Utah used a remote-controlled crawler nicknamed "R2-D2" to gently nudge a trapped kitten out of a drain pipe. 🐱 They said "R2-D2" is usually used to inspect pipes, but now it can add "kitten rescuer" to its list of functions. 😅

It's websites like yours that drive photographers out of business. All the long-standing entertainment publications had photographers that covered events. Aggregator sites like yours scoop up their work, stealing it, and reposting it almost instantaneously.

Hours after Putin agreed to peace talks, Russian missiles killed at least four people in Kyiv | Russia bombarded Kyiv with ballistic missiles in an hourslong nighttime barrage killing at least four people and wounding dozens, while the Russian military said its air defenses intercepted over 800 drones fired by Ukraine at Moscow and other cities, the large-scale attacks beginning only hours after President Vladimir Putin agreed "in principle" to resume three-way negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the United States 📖 FULL STORY ➠ ow.ly/9AXE51009sc #Ukraine #Russia #War #Kyiv #Geopolitics #WorldNews

SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. Read my latest for Axios here: axios.com/2026/10/22/ai-agen…

Three waves of ballistic missiles have been launched at Kyiv by Russian “humanitarians” since yesterday evening. They used 21 missiles. Unfortunately, numerous sites across the city have been hit and damaged: ordinary residential buildings, energy facilities, infrastructure at one of the railway stations and the metro, shopping malls, and businesses. Even a monastery is among the damaged sites. Our emergency services are working at all the affected locations. Twelve of our regions came under Russian attack overnight. In Kyiv and across the regions, 34 people were injured, including five children. As of now, two people have been confirmed killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Almost immediately after another round of talks, Russia launched a pointed attack. This means there has been no real change in its attitude toward everything that is happening. It is important to keep trying to find the right solutions to end this war. But when Russia responds to negotiations with ballistic missiles, real pressure on Russia is needed to bring about different steps – steps toward ending the killing. Stronger air defenses and the rapid delivery of missiles, the ability to destroy ballistic missile launchers, sanctions over the war – all of this must be in place. I am grateful to everyone who sees the situation for what it is and acknowledges the reality. The aggressor deserves to be treated accordingly. Ukraine deserves support. People's lives deserve protection. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine!

Susannah, you appear to have the same initials as both Salman Rushdie and Sally Rooney. With any luck, a brilliant New Statesman journalist will see how unmistakably similar you are to either or both.
