"Two leveraged exchange-traded funds tied to SK Hynix Inc. will be liquidated just months after their debut in the US, as investor appetite for the artificial intelligence trade moderates." - Bloomberg
Despite the significant investments ploughed into artificial intelligence it has provided “zero payoff” to corporate America outside of technology, according to Apollo Global Management's Chief Economist Torsten Slok bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
The scariest chart in AI right now.
Research firm Gartner estimates $3.5 trillion of AI infrastructure could be impaired by 2030.
The spending has outpaced the revenue potential. The math doesn't work.
It estimates 80% of neoclouds gone as independent companies by 2030.

🚨 For the first time in history, Chinese automakers have outsold their Japanese rivals in Europe over an entire quarter !
🇨🇳 In September, Chinese brands accounted for 12.7% of European car sales, compared with 11.9% for Japanese automakers, with registrations nearly doubling year-over-year. BYD, Chery, and their competitors are now gaining market share at an extraordinary pace and their success is no longer driven solely by electric vehicles.
📊 In October 2024, the European Union introduced additional tariffs of up to 35.3% on Chinese-made battery-electric vehicles, on top of the standard 10% import duty, but hybrids were not covered. Chinese automakers quickly accelerated their expansion into this segment which is attractive to European consumers who remain hesitant about going fully electric. As a result, their share of European hybrid sales has surged to ~32% while hybrid technology has historically been one of the Japanese auto industry's greatest competitive advantages.
🇪🇺 China is no longer competing with Western automakers solely on price, it is now challenging them directly in their own strategic segments. With highly integrated supply chains, significant expertise in battery manufacturing and the ability to develop new models at remarkable speed, Chinese brands enjoy substantial competitive advantages. Meanwhile, European manufacturers must finance their technological transition while facing increasing pressure on volumes and margins.
⚠️ Brussels is now trying to restrict Chinese hybrid imports but tariffs cannot restore an industry's competitiveness. BYD is already developing manufacturing operations in Hungary, Chery is preparing production in Spain, and Leapmotor is leveraging Stellantis' European factories. If Europe taxes cars manufactured in China, Chinese automakers can increasingly manufacture those same vehicles directly in Europe.
➡️ Europe can keep raising trade barriers but protecting a market has never been enough to make an industry competitive.

An Italian priest asked a simple question:
What do you get if you add
1 + 1/4 + 1/9 + 1/16 +...
and keep going forever?
The best minds in Europe, including the famous Bernoulli brothers, tried and failed for 85 years. Then in 1734 a 28-year-old Leonhard Euler cracked it, and the answer was π² divided by 6, with π showing up in a sum that has nothing to do with circles.

When the Titanic sank, it carried millionaire John Jacob Astor IV. The money in his bank account was enough to build 30 Titanics. However, faced with mortal danger, he chose what he deemed morally right and gave up his spot in a lifeboat to save two frightened children.
Millionaire Isidor Straus, co-owner of the largest American chain of department stores, "Macy's," who was also on the Titanic, said:
"I will never enter a lifeboat before other men."
His wife, Ida Straus, also refused to board the lifeboat, giving her spot to her newly appointed maid, Ellen Bird. She decided to spend her last moments of life with her husband.
These wealthy individuals preferred to part with their wealth, and even their lives, rather than compromise their moral principles. Their choice in favor of moral values highlighted the brilliance of human civilization and human nature.

Gold stocks have rarely been this oversold.
~92% of stocks in the gold miners ETF, $GDX, are now trading below their 50-day moving average, the highest proportion since late July.
This figure has risen +80 percentage points in just 21 sessions.
Furthermore, 90% of stocks in $GDX are trading below their 200-day moving average, the highest proportion in 3 months.
Similar setups occurred in March 2024 and December 2024.
In the following month, $GDX rallied +21.5% and +15.4%, respectively.
History suggests the selloff in gold miners is nearing exhaustion.

Swift data shows only USD survivor bias.
EUR now moves through SEPA, without Swift.
CNY moves through CIPS, without Swift.
The increasing dominance of USD in Swift payment data is just showing migration of rival currencies to alternative platforms.
