In this sit-down with Al Jazeera, I discuss Guyana’s growing oil revenues amid changing global energy markets and why our future cannot depend solely on oil. I also outline how we are using this period of growth to diversify our economy, invest in our people and build sustainable prosperity for generations to come.

During opening remarks, extended appreciation on behalf of President Irfaan Ali and the Government of Guyana to the @DeputySecState, U.S. Department of State, Honorable Christopher Landau, and his team for facilitating this important event and for their active ongoing engagement and continued support. Also commended the BCIU for their work in organizing and arranging this valuable forum. Used the opportunity of the forum to emphasize that Guyana considers its relationship with the U.S. to be special, rooted not only in our shared values but also in our shared interests. Underscored that the U.S. remains Guyana’s largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and our leading trade partner. Over the last decade, bilateral trade between the two nations exceeded $25 billion USD, with more than half of that occurring in the last two years alone. Looking to the future, reiterated that President Irfaan Ali and his Government remain committed to strengthening and expanding Guyana’s partnership with the U.S. including through deeper investment, trade, and commercial ties. Emphasised that we would like more U.S. companies to invest in Guyana, and to do business in Guyana and with Guyana and Guyanese companies. Guyana’s delegation attending the forum also included Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. @PersaudRobert; Guyana’s Ambassador to the U.S., H.E. Samuel Hinds; Chief Investment Officer of Go-Invest, @PeterRamsaroop; Counsellor in the Caribbean Executive Director’s Office at the Inter-American Development Bank, Ms. @NavitaAnganu; and Advisor to the Embassy of Guyana in Washington DC, Mr. @WMowla.

Today, I accepted the Letters of Credence from His Excellency Enri Tica, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Guyana. In our subsequent meeting, we discussed strengthening and expanding the longstanding bilateral relationship between Guyana and Peru. I highlighted my Government’s vision of positioning Guyana as a global leader in climate action, biodiversity, energy, food security and human capital development, with technology and innovation driving our transformation. We also explored opportunities to deepen collaboration between the private sectors of both countries. I expressed my hope that we can soon establish a comprehensive development framework that advances our shared priorities and strengthens cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.

Delcy thinks she can trick President Trump the same way she and Maduro tricked and destroyed Venezuela. But President Trump knows exactly who she is: another member of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves. You don’t deal with him through secret letters while trying to steal territory from a free and sovereign nation like Guyana. Unlike the Maduro regime, Guyana didn’t rob its people. They managed their oil wealth responsibly, created a sovereign wealth fund, and saw GDP per capita quadruple in just five years. Delcy should stop threatening Guyana and start learning from it.

I have written to Dr. Terrence Drew, Chairman of CARICOM, formally objecting to the actions of Delcy Rodríguez, who publicly displayed a map during official engagements within CARICOM member states falsely portraying Guyana’s Essequibo region as part of Venezuela.

This year alone, we are hosting 11 major conferences and six major sporting events—opportunities that were not possible just two years ago. With expanded capacity and growing confidence in the sector, we are positioning Guyana as a premier destination for global events. This is the groundwork we are laying today—building a future where modern roads, efficient public transport and smart planning come together to save time, expand choices and connect every citizen to opportunity. #OneGuyana #TransformingGuyana #Development #PresidentAli #PPPCDelivers

Good to see continued U.S. support for Guyana. The White House should use its influence in Caracas to urge respect for the International Court of Justice ruling on Essequibo, expected early next year.
Kristi Noem held a meeting with His Excellency President Irfaan Ali and Guyanese government officials to reaffirm the enduring U.S.-Guyana partnership. Their discussions focused on joint efforts to disrupt cartel and transnational criminal activity, strengthen border security, discourage illegal immigration, and promote economic opportunity. Thanks to the Trump Administration's leadership, we are building a safer, more secure, and more prosperous future in our region. Photo Credit: Office of the President
