This is Munyaradzi Gwisai addressing university lecturers, including professors at the University of Zimbabwe today in Harare. He is the legal advisor for the Association of University Teachers at the University of Zimbabwe and also a law lecturer at the same university. Gwisai said the strike by the academics is not just about the lecturers, who earn US$230 (R4,181) a month, but also about the underpaid working class of Zimbabwe. RETWEET if you support their cause and strike!

🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read. He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:

🔸There’s an unpopular truth that’s missing in the discourse. If the main opposition had organized a protest, key actors would have been abducted and tortured well ahead of the protests. Any convenors would have been arrested on bogus charges. CIO agents would have been stalking people’s cars. They would have remained in jail for hundreds of days with no bail. The whole reason @JamesonTimba and over 70 others were tortured and arrested is because the regime thought they were planning a protest ahead of the SADC Summit. @amos_chibaya with a number of opposition members has very recently been wrongly convicted because of a meeting held in Budiriro where the regime thought a protest was being planned. @JobSikhala1 was arrested and detained for over 500 days because they thought he was planning a demonstration in Nyatsime in response to Moreblessing Ali’s gruesome murder. Taku @ngadziore was abducted on his way to Parliament because they thought he was mobilising young people to demonstrate. The “MDC Trio” ie @JoanaMamombe, @ceechimbiri2 and Netsai Marove were abducted, tortured and sexually assaulted because they were part of a hunger protest. @Cde_Wombe was abducted and tortured because the regime believed a protest was in the works and he was a key mobilizer. I could go as there are numerous examples of this. While there may have been police on the streets yesterday, we did not see the usual arbitrary arrests, beatings, torture, abductions and prolonged illegal detentions we normally see when the opposition plans or is thought to be planning a protest. There is something that hits different when people aligned to @nelsonchamisa plan any protests against the mass poverty, injustice and corruption of Zanu PF. We need new leaders.🇿🇼

We have always said that Zimbabwe under Mnangagwa has become very business-unfriendly. Here, the Chief Executive Officer of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries, Sekai Kuvarika, says that simply setting up a solar generation company requires US$150,000 in licence fees alone. Zimbabwe is a total mess. Who is going to come and pay such fees to fix the problem you created?

Zimbabwean journalist and political prisoner Blessed Mhlanga has been denied bail by the Zimbabwean High Court, bringing shame not only to the country but specifically to the captured and unprofessional judiciary! Mhlanga has been in detention for 25 days today, arrested purportedly for broadcasting incitement material after interviewing war veteran and former intelligence officer Blessed Geza, who is the face of opposition to Mnangagwa’s attempt to violate the constitution and secure a third term. Mhlanga’s arrest came after he interviewed Jealousy Mawarire, who exposed a corrupt attempt to steal the publicly owned People’s Own Savings Bank on Blessed Mhlanga’s television show. Immediately after the broadcast, Mnangagwa’s spokesman, George Charamba, posted that Mhlanga was going to get into trouble because of the interview. A few days later, after that ominous post, Mhlanga was arrested, denied bail at the magistrates’ court, and jailed. He then appealed against this magistrates ruling at the High Court, but unfortunately the High Court rules against his appeal. As reported some days ago on this page, it was known that the courts have received political orders not to release Mhlanga, making a mockery of Zimbabwe’s constitution, which treats bail as a constitutional right unless there are serious issues—of which there are none in this matter. His arrest and detention are meant to instil fear in the media fraternity, something that is now self-evident as journalists are increasingly afraid to dive deep into exposing corruption. Blessed Mhlanga is innocent, Zimbabweans must now stand not only with him but with his family during these trying times. Prison is a very lonely place. It is a massive burden to worry about your fate while also being unable to provide for your family. We will set up a GoFundMe campaign for all those who have been asking to contribute, now that we know he will be in jail for a while. The captured judiciary has confirmed through his denial of bail that there is nothing legal about this case—it is political! #FreeBlessedMhlanga

🔸45 years after Independence and you’ve failed to create jobs, failed to create a stable currency, failed to keep industries open, failed to create a conducive environment for business, failed to provide opportunities. Instead of apologizing for your failure to do the basics required of any Govt, you’re beating up vendors for trying to salvage whatever dignity is left of their lives by buying and selling wares. We would not have a vending crisis if the Govt was able to run a functional economy that afforded fairness and opportunity for all. You promised the people Gutsaruzhinji but have given us Hutsinye kuvazhinji. It’s a mess. We need new leaders.🇿🇼

I was on @SABCNews television channel talking about the continued persecution of Zimbabwean journalist and political prisoner, Blessed Mhlanga, who was arrested for supposedly broadcasting inciteful content. I explained that the actual reason for his arrest was the exposure, on Mhlanga’s television programme, of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s attempt to steal the publicly owned People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) using a bogus investment group. I also explained that Zimbabwe’s government is essentially a criminal cartel, with the President as the don at the top.

The Zimbabwean State is planning to seek a postponement of the bail hearing appeal for Zimbabwean journalist and political prisoner Blessed Mhlanga as a way to punish him because it knows he has no case. Blessed was arrested, denied bail at the magistrates’ court, and jailed for supposedly transmitting inciteful content. However, the real reason for his arrest is the interview below, in which he hosted Jealousy Mawarire, who exposed the plan to steal the Post Office Savings Bank (POSB). Mawarire produced a letter written by Emmerson Mnangagwa to Attorney General Virginia Mabhiza on Mhlanga’s programme during the interview. Mnangagwa’s spokesman, George Charamba, immediately tweeted that Mhlanga was going to be arrested for that interview. Blessed Mhlanga did not commit any crime, journalists should not be intimidated by corrupt government officials! What Mnangagwa and his henchmen are doing is not only unconstitutional, it is evil! We hours all RETWEET to not only show solidarity with Blessed Mhlanga and Zimbabwean journalists who are under siege, but to expose this corrupt regime and how it abuses state power to silence the media from exposing its crookedness! Tomorrow the regime plans to seek a postponement by asking for more time simply to punish him! #FreeBlessedMhlanga

This message from Trevor Ncube, the owner of HSTV, which employs the detained Zimbabwean journalist Blessed Mhlanga, should make any serious Zimbabwean stop and think about the importance of journalists like Blessed Mhlanga to our country, Zimbabwe. Today is day ten of Blessed’s political detention, he is living in a horrible place yet he didn’t commit any crime. We must stand with him and his family and RETWEET and RESHARE anything we see about his plight. Blessed is not a criminal. He is a journalist, and journalists practise journalism, which is not a crime at all! Every right thinking Zimbabwean knows that Blessed is in prison for interviewing a man who exposed the plan to steal a whole bank, his crime is practising journalism! Let us all remember that because of Blessed’s interview, a whole bank was saved for now from being stolen! We know he is in detention for that because Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesman George Charamba said so! #FreeBlessedMhlanga #JounalismIsNotACrime

The army, police, teachers and nurses will be able to receive their salaries from the POSB end of this month because of @bbmhlanga reporting. All taxpayers owe Dhara gratitude because his journalism stopped the theft of POSB by senior civil servants and powerful politicians. The corruption goes right to the top. Good investigative journalism can stop this corruption even in the absence of a strong political opposition. #JournalismIsNotACrime #FreeDhara #PressFreedom

Today marks nine days of political detention for Zimbabwean journalist Blessed Mhlanga for a crime he did not commit. Many wonder why Blessed has been jailed. He brought Jealousy Mawarire onto his programme, where Mawarire exposed that Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa was involved in a massive corrupt deal to steal Zimbabwe’s Post Office Savings Bank (POSB). The bank has a wide reach throughout Zimbabwe, with 34 physical branches and additional agency branches through partnerships with Zimpost and supermarkets. Mawarire produced the evidence on camera, and President Mnangagwa’s spokesman, George Charamba, was quick to say that Blessed was going down for this interview—and that is exactly what happened. They jailed him denying him bail. This is how Mnangagwa operates. I was detained three times for exposing corruption deals he was involved in. He created fake charges unrelated to the exposures, claiming that I wanted to remove an elected government. It is important for progressive Zimbabweans to stand with Blessed and his family during this dark hour because he is in jail for informing us and helping stop the looting of public property. RETWEET for the world to know this persecution of an innocent journalist. Journalism is not a crime, what is criminal is stealing public property. We should not be distracted by ZANUPF plants being sent to make us lose focus on this travesty of justice. Blessed is innocent! #FreeBlessedMhlanga

As we mark eight days of the detention of Zimbabwean journalist Blessed Mhlanga, I know he would want you to be aware of the mistreatment of prisoners in Zimbabwean jails. This is their daily relish—boiled cabbage without tomatoes, without cooking oil, or anything else. This is what Blessed Mhlanga is subjected to daily, yet he committed no crime. Prisoners are locked up in dirty, filthy, and overcrowded cells at 3 PM and released the next morning at 7 AM. This is the price that Zimbabwean journalists pay for exposing corruption and for being professionally courageous and speaking truth to power! Without journalists, you won’t know anything about what is happening in your country, amplify the voices calling for Blessed’s release by RETWEETING and REPOSTING. #FreeBlessedMhlanga

UBH IN BULAWAYO IN DIRE STRAITS A colleague who is a lawyer in Bulawayo circulated the message below about a horrible experience he had at UBH last night which I am sharing here for the attention of the responsible authorities — especially the Minister of Health Dr Douglas Mombeshora — about a situation that seems to be getting out of hand at public health facilities across the country: “THE SITUATION at UBH is terrible. I had a first-hand experience of how bad our medical facilities are. It's shocking, I tell you! Yesterday, the 28th February 2025, l had a first-hand experience of how bad our medical facilities have become. My cousin had a shoulder dislocation injury and I had to rush him to Cyrene Clinic. It was around 20:30 hrs, the clinic was closed, and one fine gentleman had to assist us by hunting down the medical staff. A nurse arrived. She indicated that the dislocation was bad and referred us to UBH. And all she could give my cousin was paracetamol. We quickly drove to UBH. As as we drove into the facility, we were welcomed by the concerning spectacle of darkness, as the hospital was poorly lit; and parts of it had no lights at all. Also, we noticed that the hospital did not have security guards, not even one. And we thought his was strange and dangerous. We navigated our way through the darkness and got into the casualty department. That area was just a mess. Nothing assuring was happening there. There were patients all over the place, and some of them were screaming in pain, and the hospital staff didn't have the necessary medical tools or medication to help the patients. Medical staff were asking relatives or people who had brought in patients to go and buy medication or medical materials for them to be able to treat the patients. The sights and sounds of the situation I witnessed last night at UBH were unbelievable. The only consolation was that the staff was visibly committed, but their commitment did not amount to much, without the necessary medication and medical equipment. They were helpless, literally. Back to my horrifying experience with my cousin. The committed medical staff handled him professionally, I must say. They properly attended to his "shoulder dislocation". After that, real drama followed. The whole UBH institution did not have an arm sling, which is a bandage that is used to support an injured arm. l am not talking of an arm sling pouch, which I am told is more comfortable and more expensive, but a simple arm-sling bandage. So, realising that my cousin needed an arm sling, the good doctor decided to improvise. She quickly grabbed some plastics and engineered it into a makeshift arm sling bandage which also looked like an improvised arm sling pouch. We were left breathless and speechless but grateful. The good doctor then discharged my cousin and told us to go and buy a proper arm sling and painkillers at a pharmacy. This reminded me of the recent incident in which a hospital in Beitbridge used makeshift cardboard splits for victims of a bus crash. Anyway, we left UBH after my cousin was discharged. You can see the pictures I took of him with the plastic arm sling pouch and in severe pain, because UBH did not have painkillers to give him. By that time, it was around 03:00 hrs this morning; there was no pharmacy open in Bulawayo. I only managed to purchase the arm sling and the painkillers after pharmacies opened for business around 09:00 hrs this morning. The situation at UBH is dire. As I mentioned, the medical staff there is great and appears to be quite committed but it is seriously, and I would say, tragically handicapped by the lack of medication and the lack of the necessary tools of their medical profession. From what my cousin experienced and what I saw, UBH is a hospital only in name. There is no hospital there. Something must really give. It cannot be business as usual. I wonder whether the UBH CEO is aware of this and even more seriously, I wonder whether Zimbabwe has a Minister of Healthcare? The situation out there is really, really bad. One can only imagine with trepidation the horror that is suffered by patients who go to UBH with more serious or life threatening injuries. I doubt if they come out alive.”
