Campaign ads are designed to persuade you — but do they tell you what a candidate actually stands for?
Before you cast your vote, it’s worth looking beyond the slogans, attack ads, and polished campaign promises. Learn how to research candidates, understand their positions, and make an informed decision based on more than what you see in a 30-second ad.
In this episode of Pirate Money Radio (Episode 135), Debbie Wuthnow of iVoterGuide shares how voters can cut through the campaign noise and find out what candidates really believe.
🗳️ Don’t just watch the ads. Do your research. Know your candidates. Know your vote. Check out iVoterGuide.

Charlie often warned against “wearing the costume of the holy.”
Invoking God or quoting Scripture means little if our fruit doesn’t match. But how do we discern what is truly of God, and what is simply dressed up to look holy?
That question was at the heart of my message today at @LibertyU, a place special to both Charlie and me.
Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruits.” Are we growing closer to Christ, becoming more truthful, humble, loving, and forgiving, or are we letting anger and noise pull us away from Him?
Charlie understood the importance of living his faith through his actions. He challenged people, listened to those who disagreed with him, and devoted his life to building something bigger than himself. That is the kind of fruit I hope my children see in me, and that others, whether they agree with me or not, might see as well.

Every word is James Talarico’s.
27 clips. 4 minutes. 2019–2026.
“God is non-binary.”
“…many more than two biological sexes. In fact, there are six.”
“If you deny your child’s gender identity… it’s abusive for sure.”
“There’s only one person who can determine a child’s gender identity, and that’s the child.”
“I want to acknowledge that our trans community needs abortion care too.”
“…the bill that would have denied gender-affirming health care to trans children… All these ideologies stem from this Christofascism movement.”
“The way I fought for trans kids in the legislature is how I will fight for the U.S. Senate, and my position hasn’t changed.”
“Prophetic voices like Jesus have helped me reckon with my own whiteness.”
“It’s always rich to me that defund the police is considered off limits…”
“Prison is violence.”
“Tear down this secret police force.”
Assault weapons ban? “Absolutely.”
Send this to 10 Texas voters and tell them to vote today.
If Democrats seize control in the midterm elections, the 84-page playbook from House Democrats’ health care working group already maps out what they plan to do in their first 100 hours if they take back control of Congress. The first item on their agenda is abortion: abortion-on-demand nationwide funded by Americans’ tax dollars. In their own words, Democrats want to “Reestablish a federal right to abortion care and end restrictions that prevent people covered through federal health programs from receiving abortion coverage.”
House Democrats have put their priorities in writing, and abortion is at the top of their list. Their plan would push their so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, which would wipe out pro-life laws in every state and end the Hyde Amendment so taxpayers are forced to pay for abortions through Medicaid and other federal programs. For nearly 50 years, Hyde has protected Americans from funding the taking of innocent life, and Democrats now want to erase it. Millions of Americans believe every child is created in the image of God, and they should never be forced to pay for abortions that violate their deepest convictions.
Voters deserve to know where every candidate stands before Election Day, and resources like iVoterGuide.com are there to equip voters with the information they need to vote their values. This November, Americans have a clear choice, and pro-life voters must show up to protect unborn children and the use of their tax dollars.
Vote on Tuesday, November 3, and ensure family, friends, co-workers, and fellow church members vote as well!

Knoxville's Catholic bishop told priests to stop leading the St. Michael prayer at Mass.
Catholicism is debating when to pray to an angel. Scripture settled who we come through:
"For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5).

iVoterGuide President, Debbie Wuthnow, had the amazing opportunity to be on @economicwarroom with Kevin Freeman! So much fun!
I've been asked by multiple people about the midterm elections. Here's my unfiltered sense of what's going on, along with my prediction.
The Democrat momentum has been wildly overhyped. Democrats are at historic lows when it comes to popularity. Early turnout among Democrat voters is suppressed compared to 2018. That was the last midterm election under a Trump administration with Republicans controlling both the House and Senate, so it's about as close to an apples-to-apples comparison as you're going to get.
In short, the Democrat Party is full of bad ideas and has no real leader. Ever since President Obama disappeared to Martha's Vineyard and Hawaii, Democrats have been without a clear leader. They're in a bad place.
Republicans have a few things working against them. The Iran war, energy prices, and inflation have been difficult to overcome when it comes to public sentiment. Even if the war itself can be explained and justified, that doesn't change the economic reality people are dealing with.
At the same time, Republicans have been able to codify the 2017 tax cuts and fully fund the border wall over the last 18 months. That's worth noting, and it's a positive. There's also a long list of other acomplishments that President Trump has been able to achieve. I think Republicans are the only game in town when it comes to sane policies.
For the people who are eternally pessimistic and talk about not voting or how "all is lost," I completely disagree with that approach. I think it's unbiblical and unwise. In spite of her faults, America is still the freest and most prosperous place on planet Earth.
As long as Christians are able to vote and choose our leaders, we should fully take advantage of that privilege. Much of the world lives under authoritarian governments and isn't afforded that opportunity. To that end, we should vote for the best available leaders every chance we get. Disengagement isn't an option.
As for my prediction, the House of Representatives will likely be very close. If I had to guess, Democrats will probably take back the House.
The U.S. Senate will stay in Republican control. The folks talking about Democrats taking control of the Senate have lost their minds. And no, James Talarico isn't going to beat Ken Paxton in Texas. This is loony stuff.
The 2028 presidential race will kick off sooner rather than later, probably in early to mid-2027.
As always, I reserve the right to be completely wrong on every prediction, and I'll humbly admit it on my radio show when I get it wrong. After all, we're human. We get things wrong.

New poll shows 1 in 5 college students believe America deserved 9/11
AFA Action CEO: ‘Teaching American students to agree with terrorism against America is not education; it is dangerous indoctrination’
TUPELO, Miss. — According to Buckley Institute’s 2026 National Undergraduate Student Survey, a shocking 22% of American college students say the U.S. deserved the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In addition, the institute reported that 45% of undergraduates believe physical violence is justifiable to stop hate speech. “Interestingly, 72% of those who agree that physical violence can be justified to stop hate speech also agree that hate speech is protected by the First Amendment,” the poll found.

When more than one in five college students believe that America deserved the murder of nearly 3,000 innocent people on 9/11, something has gone terribly wrong in our universities. Parents are paying tens of thousands of dollars a year to send their children to schools that are teaching them to resent their own country and prefer socialism to the freedom that made America prosper. Equally as alarming, nearly half of these students say that violence is acceptable to silence speech they disagree with, even while most of them also admit that speech is protected by the First Amendment.
Teaching American students to agree with terrorism against America is not education; it is dangerous indoctrination. Our founders fought to protect free speech, and a society that excuses violence against words will not stay free for long. It’s time for parents, alumni and lawmakers to hold these institutions accountable and demand that they teach students to love their country, respect the truth and defend liberty for everyone.
