The real horror of Halloween.
Artificial cobweb: a bit of fake fun for you, but a very real and terrifying death for them.
If you see your neighbours using it, it's possible they don't know the danger so please print out this simple leaflet and pop it through their door:
tinyurl.com/HalloweenHedgeho…
The fine, strong synthetic fibres of this lethal 'web' are difficult for animals to see at dusk and can quickly wrap around their legs, wings, and neck, trapping and killing birds, insects and mammals.
When Eden the hedgehog struggled to free herself the web tightened, cutting off circulation and causing deep wounds.
Can you imagine the pain and sheer terror?
And then seeing dawn approach, while hanging there, tightly bound and helpless, only an inch above the ground but suffering slow strangulation.
Aside from being stressed, dehydrated, starving and exhausted, she also had horrific bite/peck wounds to her face, where she had been held there, helpless, unable to curl and defend herself, while a predator tried to eat her alive.
Tragically her constriction injuries were too severe to survive, and poor Eden had to be put to sleep.
If you have used this deadly cruel trap to 'decorate' your garden, I beg you - take it down now.
Please spread this vital information, and help save lives.

Fleetwood Town beating Arsenal on penalties and the Captain Pugwash theme playing instantly is quite a piece of radio.

Radde's Warbler, Thornwick Bay, Flamborough, East Yorkshire, October 2026 - I saw my first Radde's Warbler in Wells Woods, Norfolk, October 1975 - subsequently, I've seen quite a few - this is the first time I've managed to take any decent images of this scarce Phylloscopus.

An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.
💔Tragic: swifts are finding their chicks dumped in skips and their nests blocked up by building work. 🚨We need an emergency system that forces police & councils to act IMMEDIATELY when nests are threatened. Sign the petition now 👇 you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio… via @38degrees

Since Emery took over, Villa's net spend is essentially zero. In the same period, Man City's net spend is £537 million.

Bloody hell!
What is the attraction of seeing a bird that's been blown off course, with a bunch of other obsessives?
I love birding but surely it's about finding stuff for yourself?
Most of the birds that get blown in will never make it home.
The photo, to me, is tragic...

Go for a walk on almost any farm in Britain and ask yourself where a hedgehog might find food, water or shelter there. The rough edges, pockets of scrub, areas of unkempt long grass, piles of dead wood, marshy wet areas and ponds, all tidied away. There’s nowhere left for them.

Għasri survived a gunshot, crossed the Mediterranean and returned to Malta. Just four days later, she was killed and dumped at sea. Her second chance should not have ended this way.

I’d had quite a quiet census up until this beast flew at me and landed on the dyke! What a cracking birthday present and a mental looking bird

Britain had about 30 million hedgehogs in the 1950s; we've got under 875,000 today. The population has dropped by about 97%. Shocking.

Isabelline Wheatear just straight up showing off at Donna Nook this afternoon. Not even sure I’ve seen Northern Wheatear as close as this tbh.
Pretty impressive Rievaulx Abbey. Mind-blowing construction which commenced in the 12th Century. We enjoyed a storm free day and some sunshine.

If Aston Villa beat Viking tonight, they'll be the second fastest team to reach 20 European Cup/UEFA Champions League victories (in their 30th game), only behind Real Madrid (won 20 of first 29).
After a summer of upheaval, Unai Emery has got his Villa team clicking once again. In this form, they'll be confident of securing another win.
@DavidSegar_ looks at how Emery's turned their poor early-season form around ahead of tonight's clash.
