Mesa, AZ🚨 ⚠️ANOTHER LOOK - the DANIEL SHAVER case⚠️ •Reports of a man pointing a rifle out of a hotel window. •Officers had a reason to believe that Shaver was armed. •The Sgt. asked if Shaver was drunk, he stated that he was not…his BAC was .27 (nearly 4x the legal limit). •Shaver was informed that if he did not follow instructions - that he risked being “shot”. •Shaver reached back to lift up his gym shorts - the officer thought he was reaching for a 🔫 •Fatal OIS. •Sergeant Charles Langley issued the commands. •Officer Philip Brailsford was the shooter. *The commands, tactics & general demeanor of the Sgt was problematic & severely escalated the situation. *Shaver was not non-compliant…he was just drunk AF…unknown to officers. *Reaching for a 🔫 is a similar movement to lifting up gym shorts. **Once Shaver was proned out - they should have approached & cuffed** •Officer Brailsford was charged w/ 2nd degree murder & reckless manslaughter. •A jury found him Not Guilty on all charges. •The City paid an $8 million settlement. 1. The jury made the right decision. 2. Shaver’s family deserved the settlement .
