Meteorological summer has ended (June-August). It was the 5th warmest on record in Portland. Records go back to 1940. In Astoria it was the 4th warmest. July was scorching hot, but just slightly warmer than normal in June & August

Good morning & happy Wednesday! It's a cold start to the day, especially in the higher elevations and east of the Cascades. Even with this cool start, temps should still rise to about 80 degrees from Portland to Salem.

What a dramatic turn in fire season the past two weeks! Not a wisp of smoke visible in OR/WA this AM after 10+ days of showers and cool temps. Next 10 days turn mainly warm/dry, then hints of cooler/showery again early Sept. Less than 100 acres burned past two days

Jeff and Rob, thank you for sharing this picture with us. We took a look at radar around 5:12pm and there was a signal that showed very brief and very weak rotation along the Columbia River just to the NE of PDX.

0 to 120,000 acres in one day down in California
Timelapse of the #ParkFire just northeast of Chico in Northern California, currently producing a fire tornado.
The fire has grown an insane 120,000 acres (~4x the size of San Francisco) in a little over 24 hours.
The fire was caused by arson after a man allegedly pushed a burning car into a ravine, sparking the blaze.

Happy Thursday! Low clouds are draped over the west slopes of the Cascades, and some of those clouds will be around the metro area this morning. Expect to see a mostly sunny afternoon with comfortable temperatures. Highs will range between 76-80 degrees.

Happy Tuesday! We captured a propane fire from our Shriners cam along I-5 (across from the Fremont Bridge). The fire is out, and the clouds are clearing out too. Expect a sunny afternoon with highs in the mid 70s.
