Excited to see Opensnow come out with an AI downscaler. Some of the methods I’ve seen in literature have a lot of promise.
Replying to @Brady_Wx
PEAKS 2.0 uses a novel wx prediction ML architecture developed internally at OpenSnow. The architecture is a hybrid downscaler, bias corrector, and emulator. It is trained on station obs that we have collected from public and proprietary sources.

Step 1. Defund NOAA Step 2. Cry for privatization when anything goes wrong Step 3. Profit off the backs of the public
The need for privatization of radars and a radar network has never been more glaring. (Red means radar is down) Thank God it’s not a severe situation, however flooding and the need for rainfall rates is bad enough. This will likely go undocumented except for what official observation sights tell us. We need to advance this area of our weather enterprise.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The radars themselves are working, but their data is not being sent out due to a fiber outage, according to the National Weather Service, who says they still have access to the data. al.com/weather/2026/1… walb.com/2026/10/05/nws…

(1/8) I'm seeing many threads such as this one claiming that NCEI is incorrect, and 2026 did NOT have the warmest summer on average. I've also seen other threads/articles claim that 2026 was the HOTTEST summer on average. I have issues with both, here are my thoughts+evidence
Someone community noted me — I got like 3k followers, come on… Whoever wrote the note isn’t a smart person. Hottest period = average HIGHS Warmest period = average (highs+lows) 1936 was spatially hotter for both measures. Hopes this helps!

(8/8) how can it be warmer but not hotter? The largest discrepancy is nighttime temps, which is consistent with anthropogenic climate change. Increased greenhouse gases reduce overnight cooling, as they reemit trapped heat back to the surface.

And there it goes. @CentralDakSWXC is the only chaser on it. Likely to have a career day. #ndwx
In an environment where updrafts have been struggling to sustain themselves, storm interactions like these mergers can be extremely productive, particularly as it floats towards an area with more favorable low levels. Consider my interest peaked.
