Two weeks ago I stood at Kehlsteinhaus (the Eagle’s Nest) to begin filming a documentary on Poland and its people. Now it’s in ruins. Setting fire to history doesn’t erase it. It only proves you’re afraid of what it might still teach. Burning the past because you disagree with it is cowardice, no matter which side claims the match. And for those who only know the myth…this was never Hitler’s main house. He visited the site a handful of times. His actual residence, the Berghof, sits lower on the mountain and remains closed to the public. The famous Mooslahnerkopf teahouse is nowhere near here. What remains is the place itself. The air up there is thin and sharp. You feel the weight of the mountain and the weight of what happened on it. That history doesn’t disappear because someone decided to set it on fire
