Thx @smjyoti for highlighting our work, and contextualizing the critical gaps in evidence hampering our ability to care for older patients with #cancer. Our research ecosytem must shift focus to real-world pts, rather than just enrolling youngest/healthiest subset. @myCARG

Congrats @DrKerinAdelson, @cpgYALE, & team on new work showing substantial variation across treatment centers in use of EOL #cancer therapy. To what degree do financial incentives drive this overuse?
New study shows that the use of systemic #cancer therapy at the end-of-life, a marker of low quality care, varies substantially across patient race, insurance type, and practice setting. @JCO_ASCO @YaleCOPPER @YaleMed @YNHH @OncoAlert @SmilowCancer ascopubs.org/doi/abs/10.1200…

Thanks Bishal - we were disappointed that despite efforts to ⬇️ EOL systemic therapy use for pts w/ #cancer, we have simply seen a shift to pricier therapies. Need to study whether immunotherapy improves outcomes in sickest pts, but am dubious. @JAMAOnc
This is an important study. There are several reasons why we continue to treat our patients until the very end of their lives which we have discussed here. A peaceful life-death transition should be seen as an important metric of quality cancer care. ecancer.org/en/journal/artic…
