Last week we had our Marketplace Capital (@marketplacevc) fireside chat & Everything Marketplaces (@marketplaceshq) meetup.
The energy was real in San Francisco & I couldn't be more excited about the future of marketplaces.
We're editing all of the pics for our recap, but here are a few in the meantime:
Also, a huge thanks to @RonnieChatterji for speaking at our fireside chat & the @AngelList team for hosting us!
As @WoodburyJoseph1 mentions, assume you won't be able to raise capital & build accordingly.
This is the reality of fundraising for marketplaces right now.
.@WoodburyJoseph1 shares his key fundraising learnings after raising $75M+ for @neighborstorage from @a16z @fifthwallvc
We've been seeing a lot more AI agent traffic to Marketplace Jobs (@marketplacejobs) lately.
It's getting close to surpassing human traffic & interesting to watch this shift happen in real time.
My current beliefs on the future of marketplaces:
1. AI will make discovery cheaper, but that doesn't mean marketplaces become less valuable.
2. Marketplaces with differentiated supply, strong trust, or control over fulfillment will be harder to displace.
3. Some marketplaces will build their own AI agents. Others will become suppliers behind the scenes as third-party agents handle discovery & transactions.
4. Fragmented supply remains a huge opportunity. Aggregating supply & making transactions work are hard to replicate.
5. The biggest risk is becoming interchangeable & losing the customer relationship.
For founders, focus on what makes your marketplace difficult to bypass.
Replying to @LibertyMaxxd
Depends on the marketplace. If you're primarily connecting buyers & sellers, gross margins can be high (60-80%). If you're also handling payments, shipping, logistics, insurance, etc, they'll generally be lower.
The biggest factor is what's included in COGS.

Congrats to @ramannoodlez and the @rosiematch team on the big news today.
Rosie is a marketplace I'm super excited about, which we also backed through @marketplacevc
Rosie has raised $7M to bring flexible childcare and household support beyond Seattle 🏡
Since launching in Seattle in January, our Pros have delivered 17,000+ hours of care and help at home to 400+ families, all through word of mouth. Behind the scenes, our AI-powered Family Manager handles matching, scheduling and payments, so our Pros can focus on the moments that matter.
We’re grateful to our incredible families, Pros and investors for building with us. Now, to Austin 🤠 🚀
