Change the News. Change the Narrative. Change the World.
🟡 1. COMESA: ZIMBABWE ASSUMES CHAIRMANSHIP. BUT IS IT WORKING?
Zimbabwe has assumed the chairmanship of COMESA, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa.
The regional economic bloc aims to promote trade, investment and economic integration.
But ordinary Zimbabweans are asking: What are the benefits?
Can COMESA help create jobs, expand markets for Zimbabwean businesses and reduce barriers to regional trade?
Regional leadership must translate into tangible economic opportunities, not simply another ceremonial position.
🟡 2. CHAPWATI! CHAMISA SAYS PRESS ON
President Nelson Chamisa continues encouraging supporters of the emerging Citizens Movement.
His message is simple:
Press on. Stay humble. Organize. Keep hope alive.
Chamisa says the struggle for democratic change has been long and difficult, but nothing in life is permanent.
He believes change could come sooner than many expect.
Supporters of the Citizens Movement continue organizing in communities, preparing for what they hope will be a citizen-centered government.
Chapwati! Mudododo! We the Citizens!
🟡 3. VENDOR EVICTIONS CONTINUE. WHERE ARE THE JOBS?
Across Zimbabwe, vendors and families continue facing evictions and demolitions.
For many, vending is their only source of income. Mothers, fathers and young people are struggling to survive in an economy that is not creating enough formal jobs.
Zimbabweans want clean, organized cities. But critics argue that destroying livelihoods without providing alternatives is not economic development.
Where are the jobs? Jobs. Jobs. Jobs.
🟡 4. AFTER CHINHOYI: SAME PROMISES, SAME QUESTIONS
Following the ZANU-PF conference in Chinhoyi, Zimbabweans are asking what has changed.
The ruling party continues promising economic transformation, but unemployment and the high cost of living remain major concerns.
Particularly controversial are proposals that would give ZANU-PF greater influence over appointments to public-sector jobs.
Critics warn that requiring party approval for government employment would undermine merit-based recruitment and turn public institutions into instruments of political patronage.
Government jobs should serve Zimbabweans, not political parties.
🟡 5. GLOBAL WARS: WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE US MIDTERM ELECTIONS?
The conflicts involving the United States, Israel and Iran, and Russia's continuing war against Ukraine, remain major sources of global uncertainty.
Oil prices have reportedly approached US$115 per barrel, adding pressure to transport and food costs.
With American midterm elections approaching, analysts are watching whether US foreign policy could shift after November.
Will diplomatic efforts gain momentum, or could military tensions escalate?
For Zimbabweans, the concern remains the impact of global instability on everyday living costs.
War costs. Peace pays the highest dividend.
Those are the stories making headlines this weekend.
I am Kudzai Mhungu.

I'm a doctor and a dad. I rebuilt Detroit's health department, led Wayne County's Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services. We put glasses on kids, took on corporate polluters, eliminated medical debt.
I'm running because it just shouldn't be this hard to get by in the richest country in the world.

Ten years ago today.
In just the last few days: Trump made a deal for the U.S. to buy Russian diesel, an economic lifeline for Putin; he and Elon Musk blamed each other for an order that slowed down Starlink satellite connectivity over Ukraine, hampering the country's defenses during a devastating Russian attack; and Trump waived sanctions on Russia that Congress, led by his late friend Lindsey Graham, had pushed for.
Now, Putin has proposed a summit with Trump and Xi to decide Ukraine’s fate for them, bulldoze a century of international cooperation, and frame Russia as an equal to the U.S. and China.
We’ll see if Putin’s puppet continues to dance on his strings.

It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.
Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country.
Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.
Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve.
In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota.
The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.
