So I ended up not deactivating, after thinking through not wanting to leave my username open. But this is the first time I've been here in 3 weeks, and I don't see that changing. Doing all my shooting the shit over on Threads now. How's it travelling, friends who are still here?
Sunday is going to be the day that I deactivate here, I think. Twitter was a v important conduit for me 2009-2013ish (I've been here since 2009), less so 2013ish to the pando, then essential again in 2020-21. But Twitter is gone now. Time to say goodbye to the shell.

Imagine buying Twitter, one of the most recognizable brands in the world—your logo is on nearly every website, product packaging, business card, storefront you can imagine—and you decide to just throw all that away and call it “X.”
This is the New Coke of our generation.
Saw this article linked on Threads, came by here to see what Twitter thought of it. As usual, Scalzi is on the money. I can't see it being too long now til the lights go out for good around here.

So for anyone who's joining the great migration to Threads - I'm stationereleven over there. Feel free to follow me! I will probably be posting mostly or exclusively there but will lurk here awhile yet
So I just joined ... the other place ... and hoo boy I think it's really time to start ordering the funeral wreaths for this here app now.
I have been making a real effort to do a sizeable walk every day and do my exercises, and Fitbit has now rewarded my efforts, reporting my cardiovascular fitness level as Average, a step up from where it used to be at Fair. I consider that a result, quite frankly.
Workplace observation: I find it hard to communicate /defend decisions I didn't make & don't fully agree with. But I do it, without passive-aggressive snarking, bc I respect the decision-maker's authority to make the decision. I understand that they have access to a broader view.
I am very clear that, as an external consultant, my role is to advise, but then to follow the direction the organisational decision-maker determines, provided it's not actually unlawful (has never happened to me) or unethical (has happened twice - I withdrew from projects).
Second decision for the new working quarter: Reduce phone usage. I need to have phone on and accessible so I can be contacted by family, but when working on computer or laptop, I really shouldn't be needing to pick it up as often as I do.
Back to work day means decision time for a few things. Just took the step of cancelling my cowork membership - have decided that body doubling (which is free) is much more effective. I can still book cowork rooms for big training or workshop Zooms, and will do so ad hoc.
