New story from the lab, identifying how a-Synuclein aggregates induce the formation of TNTs
The final version of our study on inflammatory regulation of tunneling nanotubes between neuronal cells and microglia is now out in @NatureComms. We identified the cGAS-STING pathway to positively regulate functional connections between these cells

Work led by @_ranabir during his PhD is now out in @NatureComms
Super happy to see the final version of our study online. What started as a summer project in 2023 culminated into this, wherein we assessed the basis of directional α-Synuclein transfer from neuronal cells to microglia

It was an eventful September for us. Three Ph.D. students (@_ranabir , Thea Chrysostomou, and Sevan Belian) defended their theses within a couple of weeks' time, and graduated with flying colors! Onwards and upwards!
New study from the lab where we find innate immune activation to play a critical role in forming TNTs and a-Syn aggregate spread from neuronal cells to microglia
Happy to share our work (final aspect of my thesis). We tried to understand why neuronal and microglial cells upregulate TNTs in the presence of α-Synuclein aggregates? Turns out inflammation has a major role to play in the process! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Really excited to see this story out. We show the existence of functional TNTs during zebrafish development! Fantastic efforts by everyone involved, led by Olga and Shiyu from the lab

Controlling the shape and activity of neurons through functionally diverse actin filaments

New story from the lab. With @_ranabir and Philippa from Trinity College, who was with us last summer, we asked why alpha-Synuclein aggregates are transferred via TNTs in a directional manner (from neuronal cells to microglia)?
Delighted to share a second part of my Ph.D. work. As a follow-up of our previous observations, we wanted to understand the reason behind directionality of aggregate transfer between neuronal cells and microglia. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
New work from the lab now out in @embojournal. We now provide a mechanistic understanding of how TNTs are formed (with more to reveal in the future!)

Pleased to share our "at a glance" on diverse actin-based protrusions. Fantastic review by @sevan_belian and Olga Korenkova from the lab.
Sevan Belian @sevan_belian, Olga Korenkova and Chiara Zurzolo @ZurzoloLab summarise the functional and structural characterisations of actin-based protrusions, with a focus on filopodia, cytonemes & tunneling nanotubes.
