Ironic that while SA’s Dept of Agri, @environmentza, attends the UN Biodiversity Conference @COP17_Arm2026, they approve a trial of #GMcanola that withstands glyphosate herbicides. We call for these trials to be halted: acbio.org.za/gm-biosafety/sa… #NoGMOs #StopGlyphosate #COP17

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲: 𝐀𝐅𝐒𝐀 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Africa’s food is a source of identity, dignity, health and sovereignty. This World Food Day, AFSA calls for a continental food revolution that places Africa’s rich culinary heritage—and the people who grow, prepare and consume its food—at the heart of the continent’s future. Chefs are bringing this vision to life. From 12–16 October 2026, the #MyFoodIsAfrican Chefs Network is leading the first continental #MyFIA Chefs Week, celebrating indigenous ingredients, traditional recipes and the farmers and communities who sustain them. Through stories from kitchens, farms and local markets, participating chefs are highlighting the connections between African food cultures, indigenous seeds and healthy soils. This effort builds on AFSA’s July 2025 gathering in Addis Ababa, where participants from 23 African countries adopted the Declaration of African Chefs. Their commitment extends beyond the kitchen: preserving ancestral recipes, strengthening relationships with local farmers and championing food sovereignty. AFSA’s statement calls on governments, food businesses and citizens to support agroecology, protect farmer-managed seed systems and make nutritious African foods central to public policy and everyday life. My Food Is African invites us all to reclaim our food, our health, our culture and our power.
