Hong Kong licensed two stablecoin issuers out of 36 applicants, Singapore is writing its framework into law with the region's first opening to foreign coins, Japan has all three yen-issuer lanes live or scheduled, and Taiwan passed a bank-anchored regime with criminal enforcement, all inside twelve months.
Our new pillar piece from Money Moves East: The Stablecoin Corridors in Asia in 2026 compares every regime, plus the South Korea, Australia, and UAE watchlist, with operator research from @_CapitalLayer, @movantis_global, @reapglobal, @Stabo2025, and @TripleAHQ.
The takeaway: the licence is the entry ticket, but regulated operations on both ends of a corridor are the product, and no APAC jurisdiction passports another's licence yet.

Stablecoins open a whole new corridor of payment for manufacturers.
When an international buyer pays a Taiwanese manufacturer in USDC or USDT, the stablecoin settles directly into local banks, where it converts to ordinary dollars.
"When enterprises see their balance the next day, they will only see USD."
In this way, the manufacturer gets faster settlement at lower cost without learning anything new about crypto, which is exactly why Taiwan's device exporters are starting to accept it.
"If somebody wants to pay stablecoin, we should take it because Taiwan is an exporting nation."

Justin Wang is the CEO and Founder of Capital Layer.Justin Wang is the CEO and Founder of Capital Layer. Before crypto, he served as Chief Business Officer at a Singapore-based payment startup through its acquisition, gaining firsthand insight into enterprise payment infrastructure. Active in blockchain since 2015 and one of Asia's earliest Solana advocates, he founded the Solana DeFi aggregator dAppio Lab and later Zeus Network, aiming to make Solana the application layer on top of Bitcoin.
He now leads Capital Layer, which resolves the fragmented, multi-day problem of cross-border settlement in Asia, providing the custody, compliance, and settlement infrastructure that lets banks and enterprises across APAC operate stablecoins at institutional scale within their existing systems.
