🚨 The City doesn't have faith in John Healey. Investors are voting with their wallets because Labour refuse to rule out another tax raid or get a grip on debt. Another deeply concerning vote of no confidence in Labour's Britain.

This was one of the most interesting panels of the conference with some real heavyweights on the panel - thank you for arranging this, and the refreshments (and @Blackrock)

Gordon Brown emails John Healey in block capitals at night! Dread to think what he's telling him... What would your all caps email to Labour’s Chancellor say?

💷 Debt hitting £3 trillion and multi-decade high borrowing costs. 🙄 Welfare hypocrisy after blocking reform. 🛑 A Jobs Tax on hiring. 🥀 Defence promises with no money behind them. The Chancellor needs to get serious.
The Chancellor is having a laugh.

Chris Rokos paid £330million in taxes in the UK last year. Because of @UKLabour he is now leaving meaning that tax revenue will be ZERO. To put in perspective @JohnHealey_MP announced a £150m investment plan today, that’s half of what Rokos generated.

John Healey is continuity Rachel Reeves. He has failed to rule out more taxes, offered no pause to Labour's red tape, or plans to get energy bills down. Only the Conservatives have the team and the plan to get our economy growing and bring down the cost of living for families.

Jesus Christ this is bad. It’s no wonder @policylaila never became a Tory MP like she so desperately wanted to be in 2024.

This is the defining moment from @Nigel_Farage’s speech. Far from security escorting the protestor out, @reformparty_uk members are seen choking, beating & dragging a woman around by her hair while he laughs… @RobertJenrick, @SuellaBraverman & @danny__kruger - still proud?
🚨 REFORM CONFERENCE DESCENDS INTO SHAME!🚨 I hate protesters storming political events, but what happened next was worse. As security tried to remove her, some Reform supporters allegedly grabbed, slapped and punched her instead of letting security do their job. I repeat: there is nothing the Conservatives can do to win some of these people over. This isn’t politics anymore — it’s a cult. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Amazing how quickly @EmmaforWycombe forgets her previous job!
Emma, when that mini-Budget was announced, you were Managing Director of TheCityUK, which welcomed it, saying it took ‘bold action to create the conditions for economic growth’. You weren’t an MP, but your Labour colleagues at the time were calling for even MORE spending. And as my successor as City Minister, you cheered as Rachel Reeves torched jobs, hurt farmers, attacked independent education and damaged businesses. The lesson for is that all decisions must be forensically costed, with detailed ‘how-to’ plans to back them up. As a private sector finance director for 11 years, that is second nature to me and will be how the new Conservative Economic Unit will operate.

I walk past Buckingham Palace almost every day and it constantly baffles me why we have tonnes of this shit, cheap, ugly fencing littered all over the place, even when there are lovely iron fences in place. The centre of our monarchical architecture is cluttered and ugly.

As the City Minister who came up with the original package of Mansion House reforms, I’ve thought and worked more deeply on this issue than anyone. My view? 1. The basic problem is too much ‘institutionalisation’ of pensions. Except for wealthy SIPP holders, individuals have no agency and no means to act on their home market preference. (When asked, UK pension savers think they have vastly more exposure to U.K. stocks than is the case). The answer is not more complicated tax rules and regulations - or letting a socialist Chancellor invest your pension for you - it’s giving individuals more control. 2. ‘Culture beats strategy’. Few are brave enough to say it but left-leaning U.K. rules and practice on remuneration, ESG and diversity are a huge issue in choosing where to list. You can change the rule book for listings all you like (and we broadly did!) but unless this changes, it is all in vain. Epic self harm. 3. ‘Tone at the top’ from individual regulators matters. Both Labour and Conservative ministers do get the problem and want to fix this. They are incentivised (and elected!) to get the U.K. to grow. But ivory tower financial regulators spending their time jetting off to regulatory mutual admiration fests need to get with the programme. It’s a scandal and the damage they have done to the City has been tolerated for far too long. 4. When the government puts up tax on alcohol or tobacco it’s because they want less of it. Why does anyone think the same logic doesn’t apply to stamp duty on UK share trading? Especially, when competitors don’t levy same. 5. Growth rate is everything. Although the U.K. market has the virtue of being the world’s most international, it’s hard to outrun your own economy. When everything is too slow, too regulated, too expensive (yes, that’s looking at you energy prices!) it’s hard to get markets vibe-ing. We need to fall back in love with risk. Please share, like or comment. This really matters.

.@Nigel_Farage is starting to get seriously unhinged. If he can’t handle this sort of pressure how is he going to handle being Prime Minister where he has to make life and death decisions at a moment’s notice. He’s clearly losing it.

🚨BREAKING🚨 Following the news from @thetimes that @Nigel_Farage failed to declare all five of his houses there are rumours he has resigned as leader of @reformparty_uk to focus on being their Shadow Housing Minister. #FiveHousesFarage
NEW: The Times has established that Nigel Farage and his partner own at least five homes spanning Surrey, Essex and Kent. All but one were bought with cash since 2000. Farage described himself as "skint" in 2017. thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

While the Press will be focused on the battle for the Labour leadership and Conservatives celebrating our win in Aberdeen, there are two people I want to pay tribute to. The first is @Winstamike who was an excellent candidate for us in Makerfield. He represented our party with grace, dignity and competence. The result was no reflection on him but on the circumstances of a peculiar by-election where the question was not “who would be the best representative?” but “should Andy Burnham challenge Keir Starmer for the Labour leadership?” The second is @j_cruickshanks whose valiant efforts in Arbroath and Broughty Ferry took us from 3rd behind Labour to 2nd place, increasing the Conservative vote share. By-elections can be more intense than general elections because of the focus and scrutiny. I am proud of all our Conservative candidates this morning. Part of a strong, united team.

Labour plans to expand the already bloated and costly public sector payroll by the largest amount in the history of the Civil Service. Cost up, productivity down. You’ll be paying for it. All to please their union donor mates.
