F2P has been partnering with @_HOPICS to help stock their food pantry with fresh produce. We just donated a pallet of shelf-stable pineapple, which was kindly provided by @solelyfruit. We are grateful for community, generosity, and collaboration these days 💚

As Southern California experiences extreme #SantaAna winds, be aware that fallen trees, broken branches and other objects can contact and sometimes bring down power lines. Always stay at least 100 feet away and call 911. Learn more: on.sce.com/4h3j37n

Here is the truth.
There are too many of our neighbors sleeping outside without access to lifesaving services like mental health care and housing.
The good news is that this November, we can change that.

We cannot prevent and end homelessness without increasing access to mental health care.
That’s why organizations like @_HOPICS, @Sycamores_CA, @StJosephCtr and @SafePlace4Youth helped write our ballot initiative and are going to help us win this November.

1) be authentic - always
2) be honest - always. The opposition to housing is willing to lie. The only way we will build trust is by not spinning the truth.
3) message how housing is the only permanent solution to reducing homeless encampments because that's all the public wants.
4) stop messaging only how housing helps homeless people.
5) remember tax savings do not resonate with the public. They are willing to pay more taxes to have police remove homeless people. (SEE 3)
6) always connect housing + treatment whenever possible
7) share stories of both homeless people and formally homeless people. Stories of homeless people build empathy and encourage people to take positive action. Stories of formally homeless people validate the work. Both are important
8) learn and understand your target audience. It may not be the general public. It may not be politicians.
9) support a collective messaging strategy that we all follow that's based on reality, not flawed research.
10) historically fundraising has driven messaging. Nonprofits want to paint themselves as heroes. We need now more than ever to message how less we fix the systemic crises that cause homelessness, homelessness will continue to grow.

Being able to give back is a gift that Alma does not take for granted. Before becoming a devoted volunteer at Sowing Seeds for Life, she was at the receiving end of food distribution. Read about why it’s crucial to her to pay it forward: lafoodbank.org/stories/hunge…

A colorful, eccentric figure from L.A.'s past, Judge Noel Cannon was smart, tough, and totally unpredictable. In the spirit of Women's History Month, let's shed a new light on a woman who was, in fact, a pioneer in L.A.'s legal history: lapl.me/ZeYo1X0

ALT April 23, 1967 feature story in Parade Magazine. Judge Cannon August 1965. The caption reads, "Judge Cannon's recommendations for drive-in window and other innovations are being incorporated in the plans for the new $5.4 million traffic courts building."
