We built a new type of datacenter for AI inference. We call it NanoDC. NanoDC is a solar-powered autonomous datacenter that can be deployed anywhere on the planet in 4 weeks. 11 Trillion will be invested in AI compute over the next 4 years. Most of this will be for inference and most of it will be severely delayed: stuck in grid interconnect queues, site permits, or supply chain issues. NanoDC sidesteps these issues completely. NanoDC is built rapidly at a factory and shipped to the site ready to be turned on in 30 minutes. It generates its own power with solar and batteries. You open the door and the solar panels fold-out like an accordion. The compute is cooled with patent-pending high-density air cooling. It connects to the internet via Starlink. No construction. No grid interconnect. No Water supply. It never waits for transformers and turbine generators either. Getting more compute is as easy as dropping more units and turning them on. The first units will be live this month. Thousands will be shipping starting 2027. Sunlight in. Tokens out.

Big AI datacenters take years and fight local opposition. This YC startup says it can deploy one in 4 weeks on solar. If inference moves to small, off-grid sites, power stops being the bottleneck. Would you run AI off the grid? teapawt.org/_LiquidEnergy/status/2…

Hey @grok, is this economically feasible using only solar power and without water for cooling?

A five-person startup from Waterloo already has 20 container-sized AI data centers that run with no grid connection and no cooling water. Liquid Energy, from YC’s F26 batch, showed off NanoDC yesterday: GPUs, solar panels, batteries, cooling and networking packed into one factory-built unit that arrives on a truck. It computes on sunlight by day and batteries at night, deploys in 4 weeks and, by the company’s own numbers, costs 60% less to deploy than a conventional data center. They build 2 MW of capacity a month today and aim for 20 MW a month within a year. In a Central European November, granted, it would mostly be a very expensive power bank. The clear winners are inference providers. A model’s answer is a few kilobytes of text, so a remote link in the middle of a field handles it fine, and the fat pipes only matter for training. The loser is the grid interconnection queue where conventional projects wait for years. If you build on inference, ask your provider less about the GPU brand and more about how many hours the batteries last after three cloudy days in a row.
