Bill Maher has been so consistently great on defending free-range childhood and scorning safetyism. Here, in 8 minutes, he basically summarizes The Anxious Generation, The TAG Movement, and Let Grow. Thanks @billmaher! youtube.com/watch?v=OjQZ6obD…

"Mass deportation doesn’t put America first; it puts vengeance first, and vengeance is a poor substitute for a moral and rational immigration policy." Brilliant @DavidAFrench nytimes.com/2026/10/29/opini…

Online, too, there are new forms of infidelity: “micro-cheating” now describes anything from deleting Instagram DMs to liking other women’s bikini pictures. Young women can feel pressured to tolerate this behavior, so as not to seem “insecure” or controlling. It’s harder than ever to know where the line is, and without moral and religious language, it's harder to object to bad behavior, too. But you should have a guy’s full attention, asserts @freyaindiaa He shouldn’t be following porn stars and OnlyFans influencers or liking inappropriate pictures of other women on social media. His online activity should not give you a sinking feeling in your stomach; it should make you feel safe and respected.

It’s less important what a man earns, or what material checklists he meets. Ambition is important, as is attraction. But beyond that, the most important question to ask is about a man’s character: Is he a good person?  My latest for @FamStudies ifstudies.org/blog/five-trai…

Calling Marc Chagall Eastern European is like calling George Floyd Minnesotan.
New Yorkers experience the abundant contributions of our Eastern European neighbors every day. As we pair syrniki with sour cream in Brighton Beach, look in wonder at a Chagall painting at MoMA and banter with babushkas in Rego Park. Last week, we celebrated Eastern European heritage at Gracie Mansion, because the story of New York City cannot be told without the story of our Eastern European neighbors. From new immigrants to those who've lived here for generations, Eastern Europeans have built New York City. We owe them a city they can afford to call home.

This @Gallup poll looks remarkably consistent with @JonHaidt‘s Moral Foundations Theory. Political disagreements can reflect different weightings of shared moral values, not just different views on policy.
New Gallup poll asks "which values the country most needs today?" Out of a list of 12 values, Republicans put "patriotism" #1, for Dems it ranks dead last - by a lot. Dems say "equality" is most needed, Republicans rank it 11th out of 12.

Wanted to and expected to but didn’t love the Elizabeth Holmes documentary. Everything about it was so ugly, all the people except the mom, dad, and little ones. Couldn’t stand listening to Fiedler and Holmes’s husband for three hours. (Loved Carreyou book Bad Blood.) So sue me.

When I see young people at a dark, glamorous bar, I want to tell them, “This feels like a long chapter, but it’s going to be one of the shortest in the book.

Last week two different chatbot companies were in the news. First, Character. ai filed for bankruptcy, in an effort to avoid accountability.  New reporting suggests Disney asked the company to file for bankruptcy as part of their deal to acquire the technology. They didn’t want to buy the company outright because of the legal liability. Kids were harmed. That debt does not disappear in bankruptcy court. Then eight state AGs filed coordinated lawsuits against OpenAI this week. First coordinated state action against an AI company. The allegations: deceiving parents about safety, designing products that create emotional dependency in children, and failing to protect young users from self-harm content. Nebraska’s suit is the one to watch. It’s the first enforcement action brought under a state design code law. That’s a milestone worth marking. While CharacterAI seeks to use the bankruptcy process as a get out of jail free card, OpenAI’s defense? Parental controls. We’ve heard that before. You cannot parental-control your way out of dangerous design. The burden of proof belongs on these companies. These stories show the AI chatbot industry is running the same playbook social media ran. Race to scale. Worry about safety later. We know how that story ends. theguardian.com/technology/2…

Asymmetrical warfare! Don’t do it, Kelly!
Kelly Clarkson has responded to the Brooklyn novelty store she slammed Friday, saying that the employee is "not only rude" but "also a liar" after they shared that the item Clarkson attempted to purchase was not for sale: “Cool, cool. Sure, it wasn’t for sale. That’s the narrative Art of Play is gonna go with... That all never happened and now it’s not for sale. Okay, cool. So you’re not only rude, you’re also a liar." variety.com/2026/music/news/…

Thanks to @gayleking and @vladduthierscbs for talking with me about the formula for human flourishing, and why we are at risk of losing most of what humanity has learned over the millennia. All related to The Happiness Hypothesis, which was re-released yesterday.
Social psychologist @JonHaidt is encouraging people to “reclaim our attention,” as rising screen time cuts back on emotional connections and “human flourishing.” Haidt tells @gayleking and @vladduthierscbs about releasing an updated version of his bestselling book, “The Happiness Hypothesis,” and why he believes artificial intelligence is negatively impacting peoples’ sense of self-worth. Non sono ebrea , sono italiana e sono sionista Me lo sono chiesta a 12 anni quando ho letto il diario di Anna Frank da che parte sarei stata 40anni dopo ho la risposta Mai con gli antisemiti – at Turin, Piedmont
The “I’m not Jewish, but I’m a Zionist” trend is one of the most moving things I’ve seen on this platform.
