Squeezing out a second video for September, this session talks about the making of Cake's "Short Skirt/Jacket" and how John McCrea ended up making a video that had people reacting on the street to his bands song. Ends up being funny.

Fun Fact: RZA met the owner of the Speed Racer cartoon while in Tokyo. He happened to be a huge fan of The Wu, so he allowed them to use any footage they wanted for it, making it the first rap anime music video on US television

‘Pop-Up Video’ premiered 30 years ago today. 🫧
The popular VH-1 program added trivia and snide quips to music videos via “info nuggets” that popped up on-screen.
Series creators Spin The Bottle Inc. later claimed that reps for Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi, the Police, the Wallflowers, Matchbox 20, and other acts demanded that some spicy bubbles be removed for going “over the line.”

The whole Random Access Memories album was very strange when it came to music videos:
- Get Lucky was arguably THE song of 2013 and yet had no music video, only these short promo clips
- Lose Yourself To Dance got a video, despite never really taking off as a single
- Contact wouldn't get a music video until 2025, 12 years after the album released, and it was Fortnite
- Other than Instant Crush, with quite a normal video, no other songs (including Giorgio by Moroder and Touch) ever got a video

When “Storm” — a seven-and-a-half-minute music video starring Swedish rapper Yung Lean and directed by Romain Gavras — debuted in April, it seemed like a celebration of all the things AI supposedly couldn’t fake: sweat, luck, and the swagger of a guy who knows how cool he looks standing still.
But once people started calling “Storm” something AI couldn’t do, AI companies seemed to take it personally. “The tech people were like, ‘Oh yeah? AI could never?’ Then they started replicating it,” Gavras said. “So we were forced into this conversation. It’s a nightmare.”
In September, social media was flooded with clips that re-created a half-minute from “Storm” — Lean’s cigarette, his walk up the steps, the dance explosion behind him — with the same choreography and camera moves but with Lean and his classmates replaced by strangers, pets, celebrities, and worse. Many of the clips were made with a tool called Genjutsu, which was released in late August by the AI video company Higgsfield. As the trend took off, other AI apps began offering ready-made “Storm” templates of their own.
It’s a glimpse of a future in which people can lift an artist’s style, or even their entire personality, as easily as they once downloaded mp3s. Gavras finds it “fascinating and depressing — it’s like Prometheus stealing the fire.”

Went to look up The Dead Milkmen since I found out they got a new book and turns out I'm one of the first results when you type in their name. I feel so honored.
Shoutout to my buddy @waxmohawk with his channel for covering the cancelled Garfield movie "Garfields Judgement Day". And I helped a little as I could with it too.

New Music Video Time short talking about the time Cake turned a music video into a cooking competition.

So it turns out there yet ANOTHER version to Cake's "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" and it featured people being interviewed in LA. The only reason anyone knows this is because Weird Al is in it and said so on his website. Once again we have a lost media search for music videos.

Just wanna say this video technically counts as talking about lost media due to one of the videos to "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" is not publicly available. Would love for people to be aware of how music videos tend to be undervalued in this era of preservation.
