Fun Fact: RZA met the owner of the Speed Racer cartoon while in Tokyo. He happened to be a huge fan of The Wu, so he allowed them to use any footage they wanted for it, making it the first rap anime music video on US television (s/o @iAmJeffSledge)

It looks like the DyE Fantasy music video is no longer on YouTube Such a shame! It's one of my favourite short bits of animation. Sad to think people will no longer stumble upon it blind

‘Pop-Up Video’ premiered 30 years ago today. 🫧 The popular VH-1 program added trivia and snide quips to music videos via “info nuggets” that popped up on-screen. Series creators Spin The Bottle Inc. later claimed that reps for Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi, the Police, the Wallflowers, Matchbox 20, and other acts demanded that some spicy bubbles be removed for going “over the line.”

The whole Random Access Memories album was very strange when it came to music videos: - Get Lucky was arguably THE song of 2013 and yet had no music video, only these short promo clips - Lose Yourself To Dance got a video, despite never really taking off as a single - Contact wouldn't get a music video until 2025, 12 years after the album released, and it was Fortnite - Other than Instant Crush, with quite a normal video, no other songs (including Giorgio by Moroder and Touch) ever got a video
essa música não ter um clipe me entristece muito

When “Storm” — a seven-and-a-half-minute music video starring Swedish rapper Yung Lean and directed by Romain Gavras —  debuted in April, it seemed like a celebration of all the things AI supposedly couldn’t fake: sweat, luck, and the swagger of a guy who knows how cool he looks standing still. But once people started calling “Storm” something AI couldn’t do, AI companies seemed to take it personally. “The tech people were like, ‘Oh yeah? AI could never?’ Then they started replicating it,” Gavras said. “So we were forced into this conversation. It’s a nightmare.” In September, social media was flooded with clips that re-created a half-minute from “Storm” — Lean’s cigarette, his walk up the steps, the dance explosion behind him — with the same choreography and camera moves but with Lean and his classmates replaced by strangers, pets, celebrities, and worse. Many of the clips were made with a tool called Genjutsu, which was released in late August by the AI video company Higgsfield. As the trend took off, other AI apps began offering ready-made “Storm” templates of their own. It’s a glimpse of a future in which people can lift an artist’s style, or even their entire personality, as easily as they once downloaded mp3s. Gavras finds it “fascinating and depressing — it’s like Prometheus stealing the fire.” Read the full story: nymag.visitlink.me/6-cKhK

Music videos are dying because videos like this are being overlooked for the Taylor Swift payola train. I’ve never seen this before last night but it was beautifully executed and made me want to learn more. Instead Taylor Swift won for the 4th year in a row.

Krist Novoselic accepts the MTV Video Vanguard Award on behalf of Nirvana: "None of us could have imagined that our band, our sound, or our aesthetic would mean so much to so many people, but ultimately the music had a life of its own. It charted its own course. "Nirvana continues to resonate so deeply because people are still hungry for authenticity. For something real, something uncompromising. Something that tells you that it's okay to come as you are. Kurt would have loved that legacy." 📸: Rich Polk/Billboard via Getty Images

Rapzines says he officially has over 5,000 magazines in the archive now. Whether you always saw it coming, recently became aware, or have yet to realize the importance of protecting physical media - this will go down as arguably the most valuable collection in preserving hip hop history. A few weeks ago BET quietly deleted their entire digital news archive. Earlier this year HipHopDX did the same thing. That’s 25+ years of hip hop history and journalism, just gone. Regardless of what’s been deleted digitally, there’s 10x more than that amount of information, photos, ads, etc. inside these magazines that’s never transitioned from the physical copy to the internet. Although it depends on what he plans to do with the collection one day, we’ll slowly be given access to information and hip-hop history nobody ever knew about. There will come a day that this collection will be able to properly piece together the history of hip-hop music and culture in a way you’d never imagine, after they try to silently wipe it away from us. Seemingly useless bits of information that could piece together an entire story, new perspectives coming from the reality of those times, putting together accurate timelines to the exact date. If you haven’t already, it’s time to take this seriously. Because if you wait till it’s too late, it’ll be gone forever.
