GOVERNOR MUTFWANG’S FREE MEGA MEDICAL OUTREACH PROVIDES A LIFELINE TO INDIGENT PERSONS ACROSS PLATEAU STATE.
In a renewed effort to bring quality healthcare closer to the people, the Plateau State Government has continued to provide free medical services to indigent and vulnerable residents across the state through the Free Mega Medical Outreach, sponsored by the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Ngo Josephine Piyo.
At the Shendam and Mangu General Hospitals, designated centres for the Southern and Central Senatorial Districts, respectively, hundreds of residents, including women, children, the elderly and other vulnerable persons, have turned out to access essential medical services at no cost.
For many beneficiaries, the outreach has brought relief, renewed hope and an opportunity to receive medical attention that might otherwise have been beyond their financial reach.
The programme offered a wide range of services, including eye care, dental treatment, laboratory investigations and surgical procedures, providing comprehensive medical support to residents who need it most.
Beyond immediate treatment, the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, PLASCHEMA, is also enrolling eligible beneficiaries into health insurance schemes to promote sustained access to healthcare beyond the duration of the outreach.
Speaking on the progress of the exercise, the Team Lead, Dr. Nuhu Ma’an, disclosed that hundreds of residents continue to turn out daily to benefit from the programme.
He expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exercise, commending the dedication of the medical teams and their commitment to providing timely and appropriate care to beneficiaries.
Dr. Ma’an further assured the public that adequate medical personnel had been deployed to the two centres, with teams working to ensure that patients receive the attention and treatment they require.
He also announced that the outreach will soon be extended to the Northern Senatorial District, where the Executive Governor is scheduled to perform the flag-off next week, bringing the programme to the remaining senatorial zone of the state.
The Free Mega Medical Outreach reflects the Plateau State Government’s focus on expanding access to healthcare and reducing the financial burden of medical treatment on vulnerable households.
By bringing essential health services closer to the people, the initiative seeks to ensure that more residents can access medical attention regardless of their financial circumstances.
For the beneficiaries, the programme is more than a medical intervention. It is an opportunity for better health, renewed hope and improved well-being.
As the outreach prepares to extend its reach across all three senatorial districts, the initiative highlights the importance of accessible healthcare in building healthier communities and ensuring that no resident is left without the opportunity to receive essential medical care because of financial hardship.

An atmosphere of excitement, solidarity and renewed political commitment enveloped Kaduna State as the Plateau Community warmly received the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq., and his Deputy, Her Excellency, Ngo Josephine Piyo, alongside top government officials, during an appreciation visit to the community.
The visit formed part of the activities surrounding the flag-off of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Kaduna State and provided an opportunity for the Governor to reconnect with Plateau indigenes residing in Kaduna, acknowledge their invaluable support and reaffirm his administration’s commitment to the continued transformation of Plateau State.
The gathering attracted members of various ethnic nationalities, including women, youths, elders and traditional rulers, who expressed profound appreciation for Governor Mutfwang’s leadership and the remarkable strides recorded by his administration across the 17 local government areas of Plateau State. The community also expressed confidence in the administration’s development agenda and pledged continued support for his re-election in 2027.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Governor Mutfwang expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices and solidarity demonstrated by Plateau indigenes during the 2023 governorship election, particularly those who travelled from Kaduna to Plateau State to exercise their franchise in support of his candidacy.
He described their commitment as a profound demonstration of faith in his leadership and a compelling reminder of the responsibility his administration bears to deliver on its promises to the people.
“I am here to express my profound appreciation for the support you gave me during the 2023 election that brought me into office. Your sacrifices, your conviction and your unwavering belief in our vision for Plateau State will never be taken for granted.
“Since 2023, we have continued to work together, and I assure you that we will sustain this partnership as we move towards 2027. Our commitment to the people remains firm, and we will continue to build on the foundation we have laid to deliver greater development, strengthen our institutions and improve the quality of life of our people.
“I urge you to remain united, focused and steadfast in your prayers and commitment to a peaceful, united and prosperous Plateau State. STRENGTHENING HEALTHCARE, REDUCING THE COST OF MEDICINES, SAVING LIVES.
Access to affordable and quality healthcare remains a critical part of building a healthier Plateau. Recognising this, the administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang continues to take steps towards improving medicine availability, reducing the cost of healthcare and strengthening emergency medical services across the state.
This commitment was demonstrated through the official commissioning of the pharmacy warehouse of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency and the flag-off of the Plateau State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System, two initiatives conceived in September 2023 and now brought to fruition.
Before these interventions, the high cost of healthcare was a major barrier preventing many Plateau citizens from seeking care in government-owned health facilities. A significant contributor to this cost was the price of medicines and other medical commodities. The administration recognised that making healthcare more accessible required more than providing health facilities; it also required ensuring that essential medicines were available, affordable, safe and effective.
Through the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency, the state is strengthening the procurement, quality assurance, storage and distribution of medicines and medical supplies. By reviewing the cost components involved in making these commodities available, the government has helped reduce the financial burden on healthcare facilities and the patients they serve.
The impact is already being felt. According to the agency, the cost of medicines has reduced significantly, with some products now available to health facilities at considerably lower prices. One example is an injection that previously cost ₦175,000 but is now supplied to hospitals through the agency at ₦64,000. This represents a reduction of ₦111,000, making the product substantially more affordable and easing the burden on patients who need it.
Beyond affordability, the newly commissioned pharmacy warehouse is designed to strengthen the safe storage and distribution of medicines. With temperature control, humidity control and other appropriate storage conditions, the facility will help preserve the quality, safety and efficacy of medical commodities as they move from the warehouse to healthcare facilities, including those in harder-to-reach communities.
The flag-off of the Plateau State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System further complements these efforts by strengthening the state's capacity to respond to medical emergencies. Timely emergency response and improved access to essential medicines are important components of a healthcare system that puts patients first.
These initiatives reflect an approach to healthcare that considers not only the availability of medical services but also their affordability, reliability and accessibility. By investing in medicine supply systems, improved storage infrastructure and emergency medical response, Governor Mutfwang's administration is working to strengthen the foundations of healthcare delivery in Plateau State.
For the Mutfwang administration, improving healthcare means ensuring that medicines are within reach, costs are reduced, medical supplies retain their quality, and people can access the care they need when it matters most.
A healthier Plateau is built by making quality healthcare more accessible to every citizen.
HEIPANG INLAND DRY PORT: UNLOCKING PLATEAU STATE’S ECONOMIC POTENTIAL
The journey to making the Heipang Inland Dry Port a reality marks a significant milestone in Plateau State’s drive towards economic growth, investment, and prosperity. A legacy project gazetted in 2006, the facility is now taking a major step towards fulfilling its promise under a new investment partnership.
Strategically located near the airport, railway line, and road network, the facility is positioned to become a major logistics and trade hub, serving Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria, and beyond. Its potential is further strengthened by emerging industrial activities in the area, including agro-processing initiatives and export-oriented ventures.
Beyond its infrastructure, the Inland Dry Port represents opportunities for job creation, private-sector investment, improved trade facilitation, and expanded economic opportunities for Plateau’s people.
With the Plateau State Government committed to creating an enabling environment for investors and supporting the project’s development, the focus now shifts from this milestone to the full commencement of operations and the long-term benefits it can deliver.
This is more than the revival of a legacy project; it is a step towards positioning Plateau State as a strategic destination for commerce, logistics, and industrial development.
HEIPANG INLAND DRY PORT: A NEW CHAPTER FOR PLATEAU’S ECONOMY
After 18 years of abandonment, the Heipang Inland Dry Port is set for revival following its handover to Business Summit Nigeria Limited for completion and management under the administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
The project is expected to open new opportunities for job creation, agricultural exports, foreign investment, and trade, while positioning Jos as a strategic logistics hub for Northern Nigeria.
With Plateau’s rich agricultural potential, the facility could provide a direct pathway for locally produced goods to reach international markets, reduce transportation costs, and create more opportunities for farmers, businesses, and young people.

Area on Christmas Eve in 2023, which left families bereaved, communities traumatised and residents in deep anguish.
He stressed that such incidents demand a security response informed by accurate intelligence, a clear understanding of local realities and an unwavering commitment to protecting innocent lives and property.
Governor Mutfwang identified several interconnected factors driving communal conflicts and insecurity across Africa. These include competition for scarce natural resources; population growth and demographic pressure; migration and population movements; the political manipulation and sponsorship of ethnic militias; struggles for political power and territorial control; and the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. He explained that these factors often reinforce one another, making conflicts more complex and underscoring the need for coordinated, sustained and multidimensional responses.
To address these challenges, the Governor outlined a range of practical measures, including strengthening good governance and inclusive political participation; ensuring the equitable distribution of resources; improving early-warning and early-response mechanisms; promoting dialogue, mediation and reconciliation; enhancing the capacity and responsiveness of security institutions; and curbing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. He further advocated deliberate action to address poverty, unemployment and youth radicalisation, alongside stronger political will, improved inter-agency coordination, strategic communication and decisive measures to counter misinformation.
Governor Mutfwang stressed that effective crisis management requires more than reactive security operations, noting that sustainable peace can only be achieved when governments confront the root causes of conflict while building public trust, strengthening institutions and promoting inclusive development. He maintained that political will must be matched by consistent policy implementation, institutional accountability and effective coordination among security agencies, government institutions and local communities.
The Governor commended the professionalism of the Department of State Services (DSS), Plateau State Command, for intensifying intelligence gathering and maintaining a professional approach in responding to the prevailing security situation. He emphasised that timely intelligence, effective collaboration and responsible communication remain indispensable to preventing violence, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring public confidence in security institutions.
He called for a deliberate shift from reactive interventions to preventive strategies that address the underlying drivers of conflict and create conditions for lasting peace and stability.
The Commandant of the National Institute for Security Studies, J. O. Odama, commended Governor Mutfwang for his thought-provoking presentation, expressing confidence that the insights shared would deepen participants’ understanding of the complex security challenges confronting Nigeria and the wider African continent, while enriching their capacity to develop practical and sustainable approaches to crisis management.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG STIMULATES INSIGHTFUL SECURITY DISCOURSE AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR SECURITY STUDIES (NISS)
…Says Political Will, Good Governance and Strategic Communication Are Essential to Curbing Violent Conflicts
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has delivered a thought-provoking lead paper outlining practical strategies for addressing the persistent security challenges confronting Nigeria and other African countries, drawing from the experiences of rural communities in Plateau State to underscore the urgent need for a comprehensive, context-sensitive approach to crisis management and conflict resolution.
Governor Mutfwang delivered the lead paper at a crisis management seminar organised by the Directorate of Simulation and Crisis Management in collaboration with the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) for participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 19 (EIMC 19), 2026.
The seminar, themed “Crisis Management Strategies for Addressing Ethnic Militias and Resource Competition in Africa: Implications for National Security,” held at the Rivers Learning Centre, National Institute for Security Studies, Bwari, Abuja.
Taking participants through the historical evolution of human settlements and social organisation, Governor Mutfwang traced contemporary security challenges to the complex relationship between population growth, competition for resources and the struggle for survival. He explained that as human communities expand, pressure on available resources intensifies, often creating tensions that, if left unmanaged, can escalate into violent conflicts.
He noted that resource competition has shaped human history, from prehistoric struggles over hunting grounds and freshwater sources to modern-day conflicts over oil, minerals, agricultural land and territory required to accommodate growing populations. According to him, these pressures, when compounded by social, political and economic inequalities, can become potent drivers of instability.
Governor Mutfwang observed that the convergence of resource competition with the desire of communities to preserve their existence, protect their identities and secure political influence has frequently resulted in violent contestations. He explained that ethnic militias often emerge within these circumstances, although their roles and the implications of their activities vary according to the context and the interests they serve.
The Governor emphasised that ethnic militias and competition over natural resources constitute a global security challenge, affecting countries across different continents, including parts of Asia and Africa. He noted that such conflicts often result in communal violence, forced displacement, destruction of property, the breakdown of social cohesion and ethnic segregation, with far-reaching consequences for national stability and human security.
Drawing from Plateau State’s experience, Governor Mutfwang cautioned against mischaracterising the nature and underlying causes of violent conflicts. He observed that although some interpretations have framed the violence in Plateau as herder-farmer clashes, a comprehensive understanding of the situation requires a careful examination of the circumstances, patterns and motives behind individual attacks.
He challenged security practitioners and policymakers to interrogate the realities on the ground, asking how attacks on sleeping communities and the forcible displacement of indigenous populations from their ancestral lands could be adequately explained without a thorough investigation of the actors, motives and broader context involved.
The Governor cited the March 2010 attack on Dogo Nahawa, also known as Dyemburuk, in which more than 500 people were reportedly killed, as a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences of communal violence. He also recalled the coordinated attacks on communities in Bokkos Local Government

Nothing more, nothing less,” he said.

"May the Lord through your hands bring a revival that will spread beyond the Baptist Convention into the Body of Christ," the Governor prayed.
He thanked the church for the invitation and described 115 years as a significant milestone, praying that God would perfect the good work He had begun and lead the church to greater heights.
Earlier, in his sermon, Reverend Idowu, focused on Psalm 100:4.
He admonished the congregation to continually seek God's presence as a pathway to spiritual growth and advancement.
Idowu also identified enlightenment, revelation and renewed strength as blessings believers experience in God's presence, encouraging the church to remain committed to advancing God's kingdom and impacting lives.
The anniversary featured praise and worship, special thanksgiving, prayers, goodwill messages and the cutting of the anniversary cake, with members of the church, past and present pastors, government officials and other dignitaries in attendance.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG TO PARTNER WITH FIRST BANK TO BOOST PLATEAU ECONOMY
Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called for deeper collaboration between the Plateau State Government and First Bank of Nigeria to accelerate economic development, particularly in agriculture, mining, energy and rural development.
The Governor made the call when the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
Intimating Governor Mutfwang on progress made so far, Alebiosu said the bank was interested in supporting agriculture and rural development in Plateau State, while exploring opportunities in energy, including solar power and power plants, as part of efforts to stimulate economic development.
He said the bank was also willing to support the mining sector and other productive activities, stressing that sustainable economic development required a strong partnership between government and the private sector.
“It is partnership and we need to get those things done,” noting that while investments in areas such as power generation could be driven by the private sector, government had a critical role in creating the enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The First Bank MD, who commended the Governor for the initiatives being undertaken despite the security challenges confronting the state, said the bank was determined to deepen its relationship with Plateau and contribute to economic empowerment.
He disclosed that First Bank has 11 branches located in Plateau State, urging the state to give the bank the opportunity to do more in supporting its economic aspirations.
Responding, Governor Mutfwang commended First Bank for its transformation over the years, describing the development as evidence that innovation and a willingness to embrace change could produce remarkable results.
Mutfwang further challenged First Bank to consider immortalising the historic legacy of its Terminus branch, which he said was associated with the banking history of former British Prime Minister, John Major.
The Governor also urged the bank to deepen its relationship with Plateau communities, particularly through support for microfinance institutions, saying this would help expand access to financial services, expertise and guarantees for people at the grassroots.
Governor Mutfwang recalled the bank's contributions to Plateau, including its corporate social responsibility intervention for patients at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, and encouraged the institution to make such interventions more sustainable.
He said the state was ready to strengthen its partnership with First Bank, but expressed concern over the difficulty of accessing affordable developmental financing, particularly for agriculture and infrastructure.
“We can't expect upscale production as a nation if we are not able to provide the right financing structure for agriculture,” the Governor said, stressing the need to move beyond consumption to production and processing.
Governor Mutfwang expressed hope that First Bank, through its participation in the Bankers’ Committee and other platforms, would contribute to developing financing mechanisms capable of supporting increased production, processing and economic growth in Plateau State.

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has flagged off the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 41-kilometre Bisichi–Fan–Mangu Halle Road, a strategic road project designed to strengthen connectivity across Plateau’s three Senatorial Districts and facilitate the movement of people, goods and services.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Fan District, Governor Mutfwang explained that the road, originally awarded in December 2012 to Eighteen Engineering International Construction Company (EEC) as a surface-dressed road on a laterite base, is now being comprehensively upgraded to a full asphalt road in response to changing traffic demands and the deteriorating condition of the existing infrastructure.
The Governor said the decision to undertake the comprehensive reconstruction reflects his administration’s determination to provide durable infrastructure that will serve present and future generations.
“Upon completion, this road will reduce travel time, improve road safety, facilitate access to markets, healthcare facilities, schools and other essential services. It will also complement other strategic road projects of this administration, including the Foron–Bakin Kogi–Kadunu–Gindiri Road, further strengthening connectivity across Plateau State.”
Governor Mutfwang also announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted full approval for the Mararaban Jama’a–Mangu–Kanke–Langtang–Shendam–Ibi Road, describing the approval as another significant demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to the development of Plateau State.

He further disclosed that the administration is working towards introducing modern greenhouse agricultural systems, which require less land while delivering higher yields, as part of efforts to expand agricultural productivity and create sustainable economic opportunities for rural communities.
Governor Mutfwang reiterated his administration’s commitment to building infrastructure that is durable, impactful and capable of supporting Plateau State’s long-term economic transformation.

The Lagend Reborn
Every day, we see small but steady steps of progress under the leadership of Governor Mutfwang.
The MoUs are yielding results, even though some people laughed at them. Jobs are coming in, living standards are rising, and people are feeling the difference.
Politics is about being deliberate in leadership and progress, while allowing people to oppose you constructively so that you can be better.
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is the way to go, and as a state, we have called on investors to bring their well-thought-out proposals for consideration. Plateau State is home to all. With the best climate, great food, and warm hospitality, you won't regret choosing to invest here.
More is coming. For those in exotic agricultural produce, a major opportunity is on its way in your sector, courtesy of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and the African Finance Corporation in partnership with Plateau State Government. You will be glad you are in agriculture.
I call on all well-meaning Plateau people to criticize the government where necessary, to support it where it is doing well, vote for continuity in 2027 and to be careful of politicians who only want to grab power to fund their lifestyles rather than to serve the people. They are here with us too, and they are free to try.

He also called on traditional rulers across the State to strengthen community relations, provide credible local intelligence and work closely with security agencies, stressing that “Security, therefore, must be treated as a collective responsibility.”
The Governor further cautioned against drug abuse, indiscriminate leasing of community and ancestral lands for mining, assuring that Government was developing modalities to ensure that the Federal Government, State, host communities and legitimate landowners derive appropriate benefits from mineral resources while protecting the environment.
He used the occasion to make a fresh commitment to the development of the Southern Zone, declaring: “We will see to the completion of 61km Dokan Tofa–Baap–Kurgwi and Jibam–Dokan Kasuwa Roads and ensure that the Southern Zone is connected to reliable electricity.”
According to him, the investments would help unlock the economic potential of the area, stimulate commerce and enterprise, create opportunities and improve the standard of living of the people.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Ephraim Gar, said the Mutfwang administration had, from inception, demonstrated its commitment to repositioning the traditional institution to effectively perform its role as custodian of the people’s culture, norms and traditions.
Gar maintained that the traditional institution remained highly revered because of its important role in preserving the values and heritage of the people.
“I am indeed happy with the manner and speed with which the Pan stakeholders, Kingmakers and the Royal Family demonstrated commitment by ensuring that a successor to the throne emerged.”

STRENGTHENING OUR TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS, PROMOTING UNITY AND ADVANCING DEVELOPMENT ACROSS PLATEAU STATE
On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, I had the honour of installing His Royal Highness, Miskagam Jerome Goewam Leklat II, as the new Long Pan of Pan Chiefdom and presenting him with the Staff of Office at the Ba’ap Mini Stadium in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area.
This historic occasion represents more than the installation of a traditional ruler. It marks the restoration of a cherished institution, the preservation of our cultural heritage and the reaffirmation of the common identity that has united the people of Pan for generations.
Since the inception of our administration, we have remained committed to restoring, strengthening and repositioning traditional institutions across Plateau State. We recognise their invaluable contributions to governance, peacebuilding, cultural preservation and community development.
I commend the people of Pan Chiefdom, the traditional council and the royal family for demonstrating maturity, unity and respect for due process throughout the transition following the passing of the late Long Pan, His Royal Highness, Miskagam Emmanuel Dabang, on May 8, 2025.
In my address to the new Long Pan, I urged him to embrace his responsibilities with wisdom, humility, fairness and courage. Leadership must always be about service, inclusion and the collective well-being of the people.
I reminded His Royal Highness that his reign must be defined by the ability to unite rather than divide, to heal rather than reopen old wounds, and to build bridges wherever differences exist.
I also reiterated the important role of our traditional rulers in strengthening community relations, providing credible local intelligence and working closely with security agencies. The security of our communities remains a collective responsibility, and we must continue to work together to protect lives and property across Plateau State.
Beyond strengthening our traditional institutions, our administration remains committed to addressing the challenges affecting our communities, including drug abuse, insecurity and the indiscriminate leasing of ancestral lands for mining activities.
We are developing measures to ensure that mineral resources are responsibly managed and that host communities, legitimate landowners and all relevant levels of government derive appropriate benefits while safeguarding our environment.
I also used the occasion to reaffirm our commitment to accelerating infrastructure development across the Southern Senatorial Zone.
We are determined to complete the 61-kilometre Dokan Tofa–Ba’ap–Kurgwi and Jibam–Dokan Kasuwa Roads and improve access to reliable electricity across the Southern Zone.
These investments are essential to unlocking the economic potential of our communities, stimulating commerce, supporting businesses, creating opportunities and improving the standard of living of our people.
As part of our continued commitment to development, I also commissioned the remodelled Long Pan’s Palace and the newly constructed Snakebite Treatment Centre in Doemak, Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area.
These projects reflect our determination to strengthen traditional institutions while expanding access to essential services that directly improve the lives of our people.
I congratulate His Royal Highness, Miskagam Jerome Goewam Leklat II, on his ascension to the revered throne of Long Pan. I trust that his reign will usher in a new chapter of peace, justice, unity and sustainable development for the people.
Our vision remains clear: to build a peaceful, united and prosperous Plateau State where every community is empowered, every citizen is valued and development reaches every corner of our State.
Together, we will continue to strengthen the institutions that preserve our heritage, build the infrastructure that connects our communities and create opportunities that secure a better future for generations to come.
