Moscow claims to champion Orthodox Christian values, yet arms Abiy Ahmed with fighter jets while Ethiopian Orthodox communities and churches come under fire. The hypocrisy is laid bare: faith is just PR when weapons deals are on the table. Shame on Russia!!! @RusEmbEthiopia

News: Rights groups urge #UN Human Rights Council special session as #Ethiopia fighting raises atrocity fears A coalition of human rights organizations has called on the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) to convene a special session on Ethiopia, warning that renewed large-scale hostilities could lead to a repeat of atrocities committed during the country’s 2020–2022 war. “The significant escalation means that the 2022 Cessation of Hostilities Agreement has collapsed,” the organizations said, while warning of mounting risks to civilians. They said Ethiopia’s transitional justice process has largely stalled, while the HRC’s decision to end the mandate of the International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia (#ICHREE) removed an international mechanism that had been investigating violations and supporting accountability. “The resulting impunity,” the organizations warned, creates “grave risks for civilians, including of new atrocities.” addisstandard.com/?p=60079

How convenient. While the genocidal Ethiopian regime was bombing schoolchildren and food aid in #Tigrai, you were nowhere to be found. Now, you are accusing Tigrai of defending itself? It is now clear that you are not a neutral party.
U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin J. Massinga’s Statement on Recent Developments in Tigray and Afar: “I am disappointed to see the leadership of the TPLF, that the United States sanctioned earlier this year, make the poor decision to launch a large-scale offensive today. Rejecting dialogue sponsored by the AU under President Obasanjo and engaging in an unwinnable fight does nothing for the people. Other armed groups would be wise to avoid this. While the U.S. has tools to sanction additional leaders who try to push Ethiopia down the wrong path, I still believe a reasonable political dialogue is the right way to go.” et.usembassy.gov/statement-o…

Remember that #Tigray has been under unofficial siege for years before this recent "escalations". Its been almost a year since civil servants were last paid, and the economy of the region, which never recovered after the 2020-2 carnage, has been made to collapse 👇
Tigray capital Mekelle 'out of cash' as fighting escalates in Ethiopia - the world has blind spots when it comes to atrocities and the danger of more in Africa. This report from the BBC is a wake up call @Ed_Miliband bbc.co.uk/news/videos/cvj643…

I respectifully question Ambassador Massinga’s Conduct in Ethiopia. As an American of Tigrayan descent, I believe Ambassador Ervin Jose Massinga’s conduct and public engagement in Ethiopia deserve serious review by the U.S. Department of State. I am concerned that his public posture may create a perception of excessive alignment with the Ethiopian federal government, while the unresolved humanitarian, political, and human-rights concerns affecting Tigray and other conflict-affected communities receive insufficient attention. The Pretoria Agreement was intended to provide a path toward lasting peace. Its full implementation—including the return and resettlement of displaced people, restoration of services, accountability, and respect for human rights—remains critically important. Diplomatic engagement with the Ethiopian government is necessary, but U.S. diplomacy should remain principled, balanced, and consistent with American policy and values. It should not be perceived as serving the interests of any particular political party or government. I respectfully call on the U.S. Department of State to review Ambassador Massinga’s conduct, public statements, and diplomatic engagement in Ethiopia. If the review finds that he is unable to effectively represent U.S. interests in an impartial and credible manner, the Department should consider appropriate action. American diplomacy should stand for peace, human rights, accountability, dignity, and the full implementation of agreements—not political favoritism. @BerhanuAsres @USEmbassyAddis @AsstSecStateAF @AUC_PAPS @USUN @StateDept @POTUS #Tigraywillprevil
Please comment on this guy Dear @USEmbassyAddis #News_Alert: #US ambassador voices “disappointment” over #TPLF’s “large-scale offensive,” calls for political dialogue U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga has expressed “disappointment” over what he described as a decision by the leadership of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to launch a “large-scale offensive,” as renewed fighting was reported in Tigray and neighboring Afar and Amhara regions. Ambassador Massinga said the TPLF leadership had made a “poor decision” by resorting to military action, while noting that the United States had sanctioned TPLF leaders earlier this year. “I am disappointed to see the leadership of the TPLF, that the United States sanctioned earlier this year, make the poor decision to launch a large-scale offensive today,” Massinga said. His statement came as fighting intensified in northern Ethiopia. Reports said Tigrayan forces took control of #Mekelle’s Alula Aba Nega Airport and clashed with federal forces in Abala and Erebti in Afar. Ethiopian Airlines suspended flights to Mekelle, Axum and Shire airports amid the fighting. The ambassador said “rejecting” African Union-sponsored dialogue led by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo would not serve the interests of civilians affected by the conflict. “Rejecting dialogue sponsored by the AU under President Obasanjo and engaging in an unwinnable fight does nothing for the people,” Massinga said, adding that “other armed groups would be wise to avoid this.”what a shame ?? @USEmbassyAddis

News: #Tigrayan authorities accuse #AU of failing Pretoria after the bloc urges de-escalation Addis Abeba — Tigrayan authorities have accused the #African _Union (AU) of failing to ensure the implementation of the November 2022 #Pretoria peace agreement, shortly after the bloc called for “utmost restraint” and an immediate de-escalation amid renewed military tensions in northern #Ethiopia. The AU expressed concern over the reported seizure of civilian airports by Tigrayan forces and escalating hostilities in Tigray and #Afar, while the Tigray Communication Affairs Bureau said the regional government’s repeated appeals for AU intervention had gone unanswered. addisstandard.com/?p=59602

In a statement posted on 22 September, the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs said it “condemns the recent drone strike on a Catholic Relief humanitarian assistance convoy in Tigray.” The bureau called for “a full investigation” and for the findings to be made public “to prevent any such incidents occurring again.” “Parties should immediately engage in dialogue to resolve political differences peacefully,” the statement added. addisstandard.com/?p=59540

Yesterday, the #Ethiopia|n govt carried out 20 drone strikes across #Tigray. If @USEmbassyAddis, @_AfricanUnion, @StateDept, and @reda_getachew wanted Tigray to keep waiting, they need to answer: what was that waiting supposed to accomplish? Another year of slow, silent death?

2 days later, they both come out with statements…and it’s not to address the drone strikes. How disgraceful.
Has anyone seen a public statement from @USEmbassyAddis Embassador Massinga or from Obasanjo, the @_AfricanUnion’s envoy, about the recent drone strikes in #Tigray - the ones that have hit schools, killed civilians including children, & destroyed a humanitarian aid convoy? [1/2]

Very important to note that this drone strike was carried out by the #Ethiopia|n government. Not sure why that information was left out, @AsstSecStateAF ? | @USForeignAssist | @StateDept | @SenatorShaheen |
The U.S. Government condemns the recent drone strike on a @CatholicRelief humanitarian assistance convoy in Tigray. We urge authorities to conduct a full investigation and share findings to prevent any such incidents occurring again. Parties should immediately engage in dialogue to resolve political differences peacefully.

Replying to @USEmbassyAddis
@USEmbassyAddis / Massinga, this statement is clearly biased toward Abiy. Tigray has faced siege conditions, drone strikes & restrictions for months, yet you only point fingers at the TPLF. Selective pressure while ignoring federal actions does not look like neutral diplomacy.

I don’t know whether to laugh or be angry. When was the last time the genocidal Ethiopian regime resolved anything through dialogue? Are we really going to ignore its failure to fully implement the CoH? Their intention is clear: for us to suffer—and die—in silence.

My fear is that an overwhelming military advantage and a domestic drone production program is creating a tactical overconfidence in Addis. But this war will not be limited to Ethiopia's ethnic regions for long. economist.com/middle-east-an…
