A lightning strike has left about 4,500 Con Edison customers without power in Central Brooklyn.
Con Edison has informed us they are working to restore power. We are supporting affected schools with power generators and managing traffic at affected intersections.
Call 311 to report traffic signal problems, and keep up to date on the latest by texting NOTIFYNYC to 692-692.
We are coordinating with Con Edison and investigating a power disruption in Flatbush, Brooklyn, that may affect several thousand customers. There are also reports of traffic signals being disrupted in the area.
Use extra caution at intersections with nonworking traffic signals:
Drivers should treat nonworking traffic lights as stop signs. Come to a complete stop and yield before proceeding, unless directed otherwise by emergency personnel.
Pedestrians should use crosswalks, look in all directions, and wait until traffic has stopped before crossing. Do not assume drivers will stop.
Cyclists should slow down, be prepared to stop, and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Watch for vehicles approaching from all directions.
Drivers and cyclists must stop for pedestrians in marked and unmarked crosswalks when signals are not operating.
Report malfunctioning traffic signals to 311.
Call 911 for immediate life safety concerns.
