HOLY SHIT. For crypto, this is one of the most insane posts of the year, but I'm guessing most people don't understand it. Let me explain... Bitcoin's accounts, and subsequently Ethereum's (and therefore every other EVM chain's), are built on a specific elliptic curve called secp256k1. secp256k1 is a different elliptic curve from the one used across nearly every modern hardware device, including iPhones. Modern devices mostly use a different curve called secp256r1, which is usually referred to as P-256 - one of the curves investigated in the article. This mismatch has made it sooo difficult in the past to integrate crypto accounts natively into the security systems of modern hardware. For example, Apple's Secure Enclave natively supports P-256, not secp256k1. This has prevented crypto accounts from being able to use the same hardware protection as things like Apple Pay. Same goes for the web with passkeys - WebAuthn uses P-256 signatures, which means Ethereum accounts using secp256k1 can't use them natively either. But why did Satoshi do this? The main theory for choosing secp256k1 was distrust of the P-256 curve - i.e. he thought there was an NSA backdoor. A "backdoor" here basically means a secret, intentional weakness in the curve that would allow the NSA to exploit it and access private keys. This was because P-256 was created with involvement from the NSA... And the NSA provided a mysterious "seed" used to generate one of the curve's parameters without explaining where that seed came from. This eventually transformed into a ~25-year-old mystery with a 5-figure reward for finding where this seed came from. Claude figured it out in less than 30 mins. And the best part is its internal thinking was: "Hmm wait... is it suspicious that such an obvious thing wasn’t discovered in 25 years?" The solution was stupidly simple - just the time the curve was created, put into a specific random number generator function. This doesn't 100% prove there's no backdoor yet, but it provides strong evidence that this seed wasn't secretly engineered by the NSA. And Claude did this with "just a simple prompt" in under 30 minutes.

Think bug free vibe coding (even at much higher token cost) could be huge for crypto applications and was waiting for someone smarter than me to see if bend was de way for it
The era of bug free vibe coding is near. Bend2 has the potential to be the ultimate frontend compiler language. I stripped out bend2 runtime so it can emit anything. evm, wasm, anything you want. Go ham github.com/ind-igo/bend-fron…

for some reason, many smart folks seems to be kinda sleeping on Bend (??). so I want to give my take as to why this is so good. Bend 2 is basically a software factory language. the issue with models is that they will fuck up for your stuff without telling you, and in general cannot be trusted blind, thus making the "software factory" not super viable in practice. Bend acts as basically a replacement for what a .md does in a software factory. it defines the objectives and then it is up to the model to figure out the impl. you dont need to look at the impl because it is formally verified by the end of it. It's the whole point. YOU DONT NEED TO LOOK AT THE FINAL IMPL ANYMORE, THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART. this is also why it is superior to lean. you can write the shittiest laws known to man in the most shitty and inneficient way possible and the final code will still be as performant as it can get within Bend's bounds. while disregarding concurrency and all that other annoying stuff.

Bend 2 is here! It is a new programming language that blocks AI mistakes via *proof checking* - the same technique big AI labs used to solve open math problems, like Navier-Stokes. It is also very fast, and runs on GPUs. Watch the video. Link in the comments.
RELEASE DAY After almost 10 years of hard work, tireless research, and a dive deep into the kernels of computer science, I finally realized a dream: running a high-level language on GPUs. And I'm giving it to the world! Bend compiles modern programming features, including: - Lambdas with full closure support - Unrestricted recursion and loops - Fast object allocations of all kinds - Folds, ADTs, continuations and much more To HVM2, a new runtime capable of spreading that workload across 1000's of cores, in a thread-safe, low-overhead fashion. As a result, we finally have a true high-level language that runs natively on GPUs! Here's a quick demo:

I wish this was more inspiring, but it is actually lame It seems like OpenAI got wind that a professor was close to solving a problem after dedicating a decade of his life to it, so they threw a huge amount of compute together with whatever hints they had at the problem and cracked it It’s also not clear whether the professor had data sharing turned off, so it’s possible that his own work may have gone into training data OpenAI should have left this alone, it would’ve been way more inspiring if someone had used their tools to crack a big problem than that they went out of their way to scoop him I honestly kind of hold this in contempt and find it a bit depressing
Axios and Wired just reported that OpenAI claims to have solved that an internal AI model produced a proof resolving the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize problem OpenAI started to search for a solution to this problem on Sep 1 "after OpenAI researchers heard rumors that two Millennium Prize problems had been solved" Axios reported that "10,000 concurrent agents worked on the Navier–Stokes effort, reaching the result in about 88 hours."

You're missing the core drama of the story: Tristan is softly accusing OpenAI of having stolen their result from Codex chat logs. Tristan then claims OpenAI tried to threaten him to not publicly disclose this, and that they'd give him the Clay Prize ($1M) as the "closest humans to the problem" if he'd agree to disavow his co-author, @__alpoge__ , who is at Anthropic. This is HBO-level drama, but with math proofs.
SITUATION DETECTED: Mathematicians Tristan Buckmaster and Levent Alpöge have made major progress toward solving the Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness problem, one of the most important problems in mathematics, and say OpenAI may have solved it fully.

We'll be launching @asph0d37 on Ethereum mainnet in a few hours. It's one of the first truly onchain games. I think we've built something different; a new type of game/protocol that people haven't seen before. It's designed to run on Ethereum forever.

The whole Eth-Labs thing is unbelievably bullish and might have saved this industry. What Ethereum has needed for years, and now has, is multiple major independent stewards who each have significant financial, technical and social power. Ethereum's biggest weakness was social centralisation. The entrenched core power base around the EF and related R&D orgs was creating a host of political and social problems and misaligned expectations, as well as outright corruption. I don't really want to try to blame individuals or factions for this. I just think it's a fact that the world's most important decentralized project needs decentralized leadership. Decentralized leadership means multiple, fully independent and competing nodes of social and economic power. In this framework, the EF was literally just too strong. It was bad at criticising itself, it was bad at adapting to change, and the social centralisation around it represented, at least in my eyes, an existential threat. Having such a large chunk of the top talent all in one place was actually becoming Ethereum's biggest problem. Now that's fixed. A bunch of very significant, very intelligent people with their own clout are now running a well-funded organisation that isn't backed by Vitalik at all. There is now a group of people who might be able to say "No" to the Eth foundation. Wonderful. It might not be obvious for a while, but I think this will be the beginning of a new golden age.

I was playing around with some simulations for different tokens and found something I consider to be a pretty big deal @bankrbot tokens (@dopplerprotocol tokens?) on DEXScreener drastically overreport their liquidity. For example, take $AEON: 2.3M Mcap, 1.1M liq right? Nope. There's 427K in liquidity. 800K AEON liq reported -> 230K AEON liq real 355K WETH liq reported -> 200K WETH liq real 2.5x overreported. Be careful aping these tokens based on screener reported liquidity. The extra liquidity reported here is coming from fees (570K in AEON + 155K in WETH) -- this does not remain in the pool, and is collected/withdrawn. Confirmed the real liq on Doppler's own website. @dexscreener @GeckoTerminal please fix this asap

For the first time ever, a live token is migrating its liquidity to Baseline DEX. @reppo, the most traded token on @Virtuals, is making the move. But why would they leave the DEX they're already on?
